Advanced Satellite Video

Post by likertj » Mon, 2. Nov 09, 01:59

I searched the forums and couldn't find anything, and maybe I just missed it. =)

I wanted to use Advanced Satellites and deployed a few of them but I don't get any video from them. I can see them in the sector map but the most I can do is view their properties and rename them. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

The video feed only works when you are IS (In Sector ie in Argon Prime or wherever your adv sat is). I see little use for it except when building complexes, but then it is very (very!) useful.

Whilst you have the sector map up, press K to turn it on and then Home a good few times to zoom in on any ship/station/asteroid/etc.

Thanks! I was hoping they could be used OOS.

Only your current sector is rendered.

Also see the FAQ.

Building indeed, but it offers an exploration exploit too:

You enter a large foggy sector, place Satellite, and look the video feed carefully. All objects are rendered there.

@ jlehtone - what, even if

they're not in normal scanner range?
If so, that is a potentially very useful tip :D

Once again someone comes up with a less obvious ,but useful application of a game feature.

Thanks.
