Is it possible? :D

The range of the MDS is 4830m. The range of the gamma kyons are 4857m. But the kyons firing forward, the MDS firing backward. The ways traveled by the 'bullet' is quite different...

If I keep 5000m distance from the destroyer (speed is 60m/s) and firing backward with the MDS then the 'bullet' travels 57 sec. The destroyer travels 3460m. 'He' will be in range, if I'm right...

1. The ship velocity is added to the laser velocity when it's fired. So, if you have a ship following you at your same speed, the laser will take exactly the same time to hit the target as if you were both stationary

2. Shield recharge probably faster than the DPS of the MDS, so, no way you can kill the ship anyways.

That's a shame :( Are you sure?

So what if
- I stop at 6000m
- hop in the turret and start firing at the destroyer
- when the kyons are in range hop in the cockpit and run for 6000m?

That could make you score a hit, but number 2 will make all efforts useless anyways. I just checked the stats, and the DPS of the MDS is only 118, and shield regeneration of a Khaak destroyer is 7100. Even if you can fire 10 MDS at the same time you won't be able to lower the shields of the destroyer

The MDS is the perfect laser for firing with a running start.

If you manage a closing speed of 90, it has 10 km range.

However, I'd imagine the main problem would be that you need about 14 MDS firing continuously to break even with the recharge rate of a single GJ shield.

I believe the mining laser is coded to have absolutely no effect on anything except asteroids anyway. I've run a few tests and it seems to just pass through everything else.

Being that missiles don't act that way, I doubt lasers do either.

That's not a bug, so there's nothing to fix. Except the missile speed, and that is already fixed, like the speed of ships :D. Missiles are very powerful in vanilla, because ship defenses against them are insufficient. There's no need to make them even more powerful.
