found an interesting way to get second hand ships
im just sitting around in perp sin ~100 KM above the asteroid field. and every now and then a paranid ship will approach me with the trade icon.
90% of all paranid ships i own was acquired this way....wonder if any other areas have sellers that seek you out

in all sectors ships will be generated when you go in the sector (around the gate you came in thru) or at random intervals.
random ones will follow you until their timer expires, i dont know about the instant ones.
If you tell a following ship you wont buy their stuff they go away (this is the only effect i found to this conversation option).

How often is this happening every hour? If it's only 3-4 times it's nothing worth, because in that case I can find more ships by jumping from one sector to another, but if it's 20 ships or so it would make sense if you have to organise your factories and fleets.Catra wrote:im just sitting around in perp sin ~100 KM above the asteroid field. and every now and then a paranid ship will approach me with the trade icon.

@ giva007: The ecliptic plane is the horizontal flat plane (call it the x-y axes plane) at zero height above datum (the third axis, call it z = 0). The ecliptic projector available in X3R allows you to press G and have a blue grid projected from at the centre of the x-y plane. You probably have to be fairly central and with little +/- height to be able to see it well. It can be useful for aligning things like complexes and for general orientation purposes in foggy sectors. The other normal way to orientate yourself is by getting between the various pairs of gates but they are sometimes oddly placed so that is not always foolproof.

The ecliptic is the imaginary line at the level 0M... so above or below the ecliptic, is far below/above the sector, effectively.im sorry, what is the meaning of "above the ecliptic" or ecliptic itself? and i found a device called ecliptic projector, what it's use?
View from the side:
Gate---Station------Station-----Asteroid--------------Station-Asteroid---Gate
Me down here below most of the sector.

Just some tidbit to add:
These spawns seem also to happen in the ecliptic. Yesterday, I was sitting just east of the edge of the unzoomed map in Akeela's Beacon, when after a minute or so, a Mercury Hauler appeared from the east.
I guess the gist of this is that the spawns just happen in your vicinity, and this is most of the time when you enter the sector, which leads to the impression that the ships spawn near the gate, but can really happen anywhere.
