the SOS allows you to claim derelict ships without you having to spacewalk.
so, just do the same thing when you're going to claim one: select ship, wait until you are close enough or until the claim button lights up and then claim ship.

btw, SOS is illegal software. get a software signature scrambler from the Duke's to mask the SOS signal. Otherwise, the cops will chase you.

just like if you were going to claim a ship while in your spacesuit.

Yup, just fly nearby and the option to claim an abandoned ship will light up.

Honestly, I wish Egosoft had better implemented this piece of software into the game, such as by giving it more purposes. If its only function is to claim abandoned ships, I don't see why it's illegal.

i can kinda see the balance in it....

go into a pirate sector with an m1, get within 1000m of the target, claim, load fighter into carrier, rinse and repeat untill full.

or,

go into a pirate sector with an m1 filled with cheap m5s that have jumpdrives and ecells, get within 1000m of the target, claim, exchange jumpdrive + ecell onto new m6 / m6+ / m7 / m7m / m2 / m1, rinse and repeat untill depleted.

.............................

i so want it to do that now >_<

Does anyone know if you can see your pirate rep anywhere?

other than the script editor method. no, you cannot view your rep with them anywhere.

my max range of SOS is 2km
i use it in khaak sectors
jump in with M1 target abandoned fighter > claim > transfer docking computer > teleporting myself into fighter > autodock in a sec back to my M1 > transferring docking computer back to M1.
safest way to get the khaak ships

So in X3TC the only way to get the SSS is to get one from the Duke? That's going to suck

Yup. Unless you get very lucky when buying a second hand ship that has one onboard.

I've never had that be an installed upgrade on a secondhand ship.
