OOS combat: Fragmentation Bomb Launchers?

I'm looking to set up a patrol to take care of my complexes when I'm OOS. Since speed and weapon generators don't matter much OOS, I've considered using Falcons (with the shipyard pumping out sentinels) since they're cheap and have high shielding. But I'm not sure what weapons I should fill them with. Should I max them out with Fragementation Bomb Launchers? They have a high per-shot damage(40% higher than HEPT), but OOS combat is wonky, so I'm not sure if it's worth doing.

AFAIK, the FBL is still broken (for IS at least, don't know about OOS since I simply sell them).

FBL's have been broken since the game was first released (Version 1.0). Heck the Cluster Flak Artillery Array wasn't fixed until 2.5. Hopefully the FBL will be fixed at some point.

FBLs fire too slowly, use too much energy, and have an explosion that can't be used realistically with IS combat.

However they have a high damage shot that looks like it'd tear things to shreds OOS. I was wondering if anyone has any experience using these?

I can say FBL is the most powerful OOS fighter gun.
Be warned though that fighters die very often OOS.

Really ? I didn't know that.

However, personally I prefer to equip weapons that are useful both in and out of sector in case I need to call in reinforcements in a hurry. So I never equip FBLs on any of my ships.

The only use that FBLs have is the nice amount of credits you get from selling them. :P But really, the best weapons for OOS is probably the good old HEPT, or PRGs. There the only weapons that I fit to my fighters for OOS defence.

In my experience PRG sucks badly OOS.

Never had any problems with PRGs I use them on all my Elites, I haven't lost one yet.

HEPT, PRG, MD, EBC, mainly on my (24) Blastclaws and (12) Novas assigned to M7s Out of Sector with Elites are frieghters, captured one and all from Pirates. Saved me a lot of money.

Hmmm..Pirate Elites are not as good as shop bought, they have less shields IIRC. But I guess if you got them for free, you can't really complain. :)
