Squash Mine - Friend or Foe?
Whats the real use of this device?
Can you take out a laser tower, or a station maybe?
Or just the odd small ship.
What are it's best uses ?

Mines are useful only against fighters (M6 are a stretch) and without any friendlies close.
They are utterly useless against an M2.
Well, they can moonlight as a crude ECM system if you don't fly a small ship yourself. =)
There was a Tracker Mine script for Reunion but it ended up massively overpowered. Because it worked.
And the game's fight scripts can not deal with mines. An attack run on a mine immediately freezes a fighter's fight script until the order is changed.
(so far, MARS goblins are the only "fighters" that can attack mines)

If memory serves xtm had a teladi m8 (special usage class back then) that laid mine fields.

But even then the mines were lacking, they are just a bit too dumb really and were a bit of a pain too use properly.
Oh if only a lone scripter would take up the cause and give the mines a bit of brains.......

Sure you can but you need hundreds of them, targeted perfectly.
And yes... if the ship deploys that many it is very likely smack in the middle of the minefield and any attempt to fly out would mean a collision with at least one mine. And then...
Mk2 drones are far cheaper and reusable to boot.

IME only useful as pack-o-pirate fighters on my six deterrent, or the ware requirements for ridiculously profitable freighter missions given by pirates..... Otherwise there are better options.
Brings a question to mind.... What's the blast radius on those things anyway? In X3R I think I was killed <2k-ish out....
