Homicidal Paranids destroy Terracorp HQ without provocation

Post by Andoron » Wed, 24. Feb 10, 21:46

Last night I arrived in Home of Light to dock at Terracorp HQ, so I could save my game and go to bed. I noted that there was an unusually large amount of capital ships in the system. About half of which were Parranid, which was strange. Much to my dismay upon targeting the station, I noticed that its shields were draining rapidly. I then watched in horror as Terracorp HQ was mysteriously destroyed. :o

I quit without saving and headed for bed, deciding to sort the situation out in the morning from my last save.

Today I loaded my save and entered Home of Light once again. This time Terracorp HQ was fine, but I saw that some of the other stations in the system were under fire. When I got closer to investigate, I saw that the Parranid warships were the ones behind these senseless attacks!

Since I learned it was a repeating problem, and not some freak occurrence with spawning or some such, I have come to these forums for assistance.

Any help in fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Oh, and I'm running a completely vanilla game, version 2.5.

The Argon and the Paranid aren't supposed to like each other (although it's rare to see hostilities on that kind of scale).

I'd call it more like 'infrequent' than 'rare'. It's also not uncommon to see the Argon returning the favor in Paranid Prime. As to sorting out the problem, the best you can do may be to help the Argon defend their sector against the Paranid, if you have the ability. Otherwise, let Terracorp HQ die/respawn.

As long as you're not currently engaged in doing Terracorp missions, it shouldn't be an issue, but players have reported that once you start doing missions for a corp, if their HQ is destroyed, your mission sequence is broken and can't be repaired.

Back when I was doing the Corporate testing I had a Paranid fleet making a mess in the Ore Belt and nearly destroyed Plutarch (Plutarch's defense fleet was wiped out). Then they decided to go to Home of Light and try the same stunt on TerraCorp, fortunately an Argon war fleet was passing by and with the help of TerraCorp's defense fleet, the Paranid warships got turned to dust.

Guess I'm lucky then. In my game, the Paranid came to Home of Light sector with some bad disposition and started messing around killing stuff, but not stations yet. The Argon managed (barely) to kill off the last Paranid M2 and that was that, station shields recharging, the few Argon ships licking their wounds. Not long after that, on one of my routine trading runs in Paranid Prime, a huge Argon fleet obliterated the sector, together with the 25MJ Shield big forge! Okay, bozos, get your revenge, but NOt on MY expenses, jeeez!

Ohhh, they're supposed to attack each other. That sure explains a lot.

I guess I'll just have to suffer the outcome of the situation, since the strongest ship I have is my Nova Raider. I doubt it would do much good against their capital ships. Plus the Paranids are my friends too.

At least I can take comfort in the fact that the HQ will be rebuilt if it gets destroyed the next time around.

Anyway, thanks for the help guys.

I think the Paranid go after Terracorp HQ because of the role Kyle Brennan, founder and owner of Terracorp, played in disrupting their plans for trying to dominate the X-Universe with their gate building technology in Reunion.

What's hilarious is to watch the occasion that the two fleets cross paths between sectors. It's usually a close call.

Perhaps only tangentially related, but I've seen an Argon Cerberus kill a Paranid Deimos more than once, which is sorta odd considering how the Deimos has double the shields and thus a huge advantage in the stats.

The Deimos is certainly a much larger target than the Cerberus, which probably helps Cerbie's cause. Still, the Deimos sure looks like a mean ship on paper. I'm surprised.

I enjoy riding shotgun with the invasion fleets, sometimes. You feel like you're actually part of a decent interstellar war. :D Especially if you've got at least a hangared ship at your command.

some Boron capital ships were gate camping a Paranid system, for a moment when I jumped in, I thought I was still back in the olden days playing Eve Online.

I have only ever seen the Boron making a right mess of some pirate sectors. Some pacifists!

While I've seen the Argon and Paranid going at it a few times, I have something going on in my game now that has me wondering what's going on.

While defending my complex in Mines of Fortune from a random Pirate Attack, a giant Argon fleet came through the West Gate and casually finished off all the remaining Pirates on it's way south. I didn't think much of it, just that it was one of the usual Argon patrols. A bit later, while remote trading in Tkr's Deprivation, the same fleet came by, heading east, and that's when I realised... This is deep into Split territory. It looks like a patrol has left Omicron Lyrae and has traveled from Scale Plate Green to Family Whi to Tkr's Deprivation, probably headed back to Omicron Lyrae via X472.

I've never seen something like this before. Wherever it came from, and wherever it is going, it has spent a lot of time in Split and Teladi Sectors since leaving Argon space.

Home of Light is a flashpoint between theese races. This was the first place i saw a big skirmish between argon and paranid M7 groups. Got my first big loot there.

Now due to HUB placement argon is ripping the new duchy colonies to pieces in my game. Paranid attempt to return the favor but fail usualy at Argon Prime where Argon One gives them a warm welcome.

I've only ever seen large scale race sieges.
This MAY have something to do with having the RRF script active however.

theres nothing like being in a Split sector then seeing jumpflashes of Terran ships appearing and laying waste to everything. Annoyingly with the script, decent parts of terran space are occupied by Boron/Paranid...

I also once saw Jonferco go up in flames an hour or 2 into the game (just after undocking too)

due to the universal virus script.. but still, seeing HQ's going is quite the :O moment.

Well I have improved races installed, but in my game the terrans are ripping the argon apart. They have taken treasure chest, black hole sun, and omicron lyrae, circle of labor and then somehow got xenon sector 347
I like it though, but their stations are HUGE :D

Can say that the race attacks happen from time to time, and theyre fun to watch, just be careful when you got alot of assets/flying traders in the sector, stray fire can cause serious havoc.

Will never forget the first time I saw such invasion, was in Empire's Edge. A large Argon fleet consisting of an M1 & M2 with accompanying escortfleet invaded the sector and blasted every station in sight (save a few farms) Quite annoying as it's the only sector in the neightbourhood with decent energysupply (has 3 SPP I believe?)

After the mayhem the argon stayed for a long time in that sector, laying waste to any paranid that dared enter it. Occupation eventually ended when a Paranid Zeus came along with it's buddies.
Was left with a core sector to rebuild tho.... and a totally screwed Paranid economy (no energy!).
