What do you do with your M2??
Hey all, Biro again...
So I've been smashing stuff in my Thresher for a while now, got 150 mil saved up, and am looking at upgrading to an M2 (Still only buying, got marines in training atm, but having a hell of a time finding any that are better than 1-star fighting meatshields . I hate GoD sometimes...). The Boreas is my pick at the moment, but I'm not really sure why I actually want to get one, other than I'm a fan of the Combat game and an M2 is the next level. I'll try out an M7M at some point I guess, but I quite enjoy not relying on missiles to kill shit.
I'm also friendly with all the major races, and I'm not running any scripts to make people get aggressive, so I don't really use many OOS patrols. My old Deimos is doing laps around Omicron Lyrae more for want of something to do than anything else.
So, to my question. What do all you other TC players out there do with your M2s?

All of my M2s are either docked at the PHQ awaiting their slot for reverse engineering or (if my PHQ already has a copy RE'd) are parked nearby as hunting trophies (all of my M2s previously belonged to other people ). I like having them to look at but don't fly them very often (most of them don't even have weapons or shields installed).
For personal use I much prefer flying an M6, either a Hydra or occasionally Heavy Hydra in my current game (it's Lost Lar so I'm sticking mostly to Boron ships for this game). I also don't have much use for OOS defence forces. I'm trying to stay on good terms with the pirates so prefer to deal with pirate attacks on my complexes personally. A lot of the time all I need to do is fly close to them & scan them - often they'll then turn blue & fly off to hassle someone else.

I use mine to take on missions requiring me to enter Kha'ak or xenon space and totally own the enemy. When you get a mission that simply requires you to clear a sector or outgun the locals then this is where you may find a use for the overpowered m2
32 PPCs and 8 CFAs, and 10 gig shields. you won't be answering to no one with the right weapons configuration. You would want one for the FF missions unless you want to get cheap and use an M7M, and with the cost of M7M missiles the boreas is actually the really cheap option
Code: Select all

I have some of mine OOS set to waste Xenon in sectors on their patrol routes (eg TUS1, Grand Exchange, Menelaus' Paradise, etc) and the same for Pirate capitals (Loomanckstrat's Legacy, Hatikvah's Faith, Brennan's Triumph, Unknown Sector west of Maelstrom, etc) until the time I want to drop in personally and do some boarding or loot gathering. I know I don't need to do this and that the hostiles just respawn elsewhere, but I like to have real time emergencies and contacts to break up the routine of PHQ and fleet/empire management.

I Have a Titan still patrolling Pirate Sectors around Split Fire and Elena's Fortune. And now a Raptor patrolling the sectors from Getsu Fune to Zyarth's Dominion. Other M2s are Trophies and also testing weapon loadouts, Though I took my Boreas for a spin while doing the Aldrin plot. Mostly I build my M2 fleet to permanently clean out the Xenon border sectors.

My Osaka M2 is a joyride only - nothing more fun than to lay waste to multiple Xenon sectors in a row when I'm tired of empire building. One charged PSP volley can destrpy a Q!
I think the standout M2s are the Boreas (uber), the Osaka (uber), the Python (fast), and the Shrike (Gauss Cannons). I like the Osaka as it can mount flak everywhere and keep those pesky un-capitals off my back.

That comment was with regard to 'I'm not sure why I actually want an M2' rather than the Boreas itself. I've had a good look and the Boreas certainly appears to be the hottest of the M2s out there, so if I get one then that'll be the one I get.
As far as application goes, I actually quit my old Reunion game about 4 play-hours after buying an M2. I found the combat just got too simple, clearing a sectors in a Titan was possible in my sleep. Hopefully there's still enough stuff in TC to keep me interested. Now that my combat missions are often earning me over 10-mil (lastnight I hit a new record, 18-mil for a XI mission ) then I'll have the cash to branch out into whatever I want once I get my combat rank a couple of points higher.
I had also completely forgotten about OFF. Atm I'm at the point in that one where the High-Yield 'roids need scanning, and then waiting for that blasted Orca to do its thing. I've tried a couple of times, but the sheer quantity of in the sector meant I needed my Deimos to do the scanning, and it was too slow to keep up with the Orca after it jumped in. Not really sure how an M2 will help in this situation, but hey, if nothing else I can blow the Orca into next century after it pisses me off again......

Once you go Tyr you never go back .
In vanilla I go PSP's up front and 42 SSC all around for everything that's not an M7/M2/M1. This one ship rules the universe for me. In my vanilla save I have one of each M2 acquired from good old fashion piracy; defending my home sector and all of my plexes (avarice). On sector wiping missions I'll take two AI controlled Boreas and my Tyr in and go gangbusters on whomever.

Teladi Phoenix - biggest battlewagon 4.5 kilometres, nice but slow.
OTAS Boreas - it would end up a bugspot on the Phoenix.
I use both. M2 are for the following - :
They are used for Out of Sector defence in the most dangerous areas. The worst area that I have had since the start fo the game is Elena's.
Four Tiger Class Escorts, Two Boreas Class, all designed to stop the major shipping losses in that area.
Really expensive, but they all do the job very well.
I have a couple of destroyers and a half dozen Frigates and the same number of M6 for RDF (Rapid Deployment Force) jumps into any areas where there are flare up's or sudden incursions by the enemy forces such as Kh'aak, Pirates, Xenon.
