What M2 do you use?
Osaka seems to be the best M2 in the game (after the ATFs), but i always see poeple saying that the Boreas is the one overpowered, all i can see on it is more speed and weapon compatibility, can someone explain that?
My complete script download page. . . . . . I AM THE LAW!

IS it's the size, OOS the firepower. The AI doesn't charge.Luisedgm wrote:24 PSP on Osaka vs 32 PPC on Boreas, i see a difference here, but doesn't the charged PSP hurt way more than PPC?
So, its the reduced size of the boreas that make him so good? i dont think size would matter in a OOS battle tho.

After having bought a Boreas in my most recent DiD, I would indeed have to put in the recommendation.
To buy an Osaka, that is.
I found it a much more enjoyable ship to fly, better anti-fighter capability, mor sheilds...

It all depends what you want it for.
Against swarms of fighters the Osaka's extra gun slots come into play.
With 48 SSC it becomes a fighter killing machine.
Against swarms of M6 and bigger, the Boreas's PPC is deadly.
It's a bit faster. Fast enough to maintain distance when "running
away" from a K. Using the rear PPC bank to blow the "pursuer" into
the next life is quietly satisfying.

For me it's the Boreas, no contest as far as I'm concerned, with the right load out on weapons this baby survives everythingh thrown at her in my games.
I do not use ppc's but Guass cannons on main guns and a mix of PBE's and pacs and hepts on the rear/middle guns with 4 of the side turrets also with guass cannons. Not at home now so cannot quote the exact load out.
I love sending it into the Khaak sectors on the final fury missions, put it on auto attack all enemies and just watch it kick khaak butt The only time I ever intervene and fly it myself is when more than one corvette is amongst the khaak fleet. Also no fighter escort needed in these sectors, the Boreas performs so well with the mixed load out.
The Zenon are a different kettle of fish and I would use fighter escorts and M6 support for the Zenon main sectors.

Ok... which M2 do I use???
I have at least one of each of them (bar Xenon/Kha'ak).
I have a single wing of 5 Boreas and I have 3 Osaka (2 on point defence duty and one personal).
I like the Osaka, it is quite cheap and is an excellent tactical weapon, with 12GJ of shields and more weapon energy than any other M2. It is a thinking man's destroyer. The Tyr also ranks on a similar basis but due to the limited cargo space and lesser weapon power generator I can not really put it forward. I will however say it has some merits over the Osaka but the Osaka has a cargo size more in keeping with it's wants and needs.
I also like the Boreas, but it is pretty much a Sledge Hammer of a ship. If you want a ship that will beat the living daylights out of most things then go for this... BUT... be prepared, it is less forgiving in many ways than the Osaka for your mistakes. 10GJ of shields is nice, but don't be fooled into thinking you are invincible with all those guns.
Now the Yaki Akuma is an interesting ship, If you are considering the Python consider this ship instead... the Akuma is as the Python wants to be.

I use the K. Builds in just 13 hours, small, menoeuvrable. Poor generators for class are offset by the fact they are still good in the grand scheme of things anyway and that I can field at least four Ks for every one of any other destroyer (construction time seems proportionate to ship cost, and as the K is not buyable (so just as well it builds fast, ha) the devs just gave it an arbitrarily low 12mil). Also takes both Terran and Commonwealth kit, so I can arm them with whatever scraps I have during a shortage. Worst thing about it is the tiny cargo bay, but it's still enough to hold what's necessary.
There are all these points, but the only real reason I use it is because back in XT when it went 635m/s and there were a lot more of them it was the most menacing enemy I'd ever seen in any game. Today it's a shadow of its former self, as are all destroyers, but it still looks good as ever and it's nice to live a legacy I'd previously stood against, as well as show NPCs what "still deserving the greatest of respect" means.

i like to use 2 ships:
the ATF tyr, 3rd fastest m2 (beaten by the akuma and python), second in shielding (6X2GJ, valhalla has 7x2GJ), super strong anticapship broadisdes with versatile antifighter / anti corvette points all around. real fun evading the police long enough to jack one
the teladi phoenix. second slowest m2(only the valhalla is slower),above average shielding (5x2GJ),can fire guns regardless of energy reserves with right setup(gauss cannon & EBC where applicable), largest m2 cargobay.

I fly a Boreas atm, first Cap Ship I ever bought. It's absolutely lethal against other cap ships, and with Flak or Cluster F**k up, down and back fighters don't pose much of a problem. I do manual missile defense with wasps, so I don't need anythying with longer range than the flaks
I was always tempted by the Osaka, but the pain of loading one out is what turned me off. At least to get a basic weapons loadout for a Boreas (Mostly IBLs, Few PPC, couple of IC) I could buy a few bits and pieces, and farm the neverending supply of Yaki destroyers in my Thresher to fill the broadsides. That said, I was planning on retiring my Thresher once I got an M2 and I already had 10 PPC to make the most of its sniping abilities, so I didn't really need that much more gear to do the trick.
As far as fighters go, with 8 FAA's mounted in the rear guns, nothing survives a flight past my rear 180. Most attack passes by fighters will come close to taking them into that hellstorm, and with 10 Gj of shields I can afford for them to make a few passes before they die without serious problems.
