War with Paranid... Should I do it?

Post by Everrede » Wed, 17. Mar 10, 13:17

I hate them, so I wanna kick their sorry asses, but from a rational point of view I doubt I should do it, because it's likely that I'll miss the opportunity to buy some wares that are only sold at their docks (I can only think of their Docking Computer, but I'm sure that it isn't the only one), and I won't get anything by doing this; money, friendship with any other race... Also, I only have an Argon Cerberus, a Heavy Centaur (I enjoy using this ship in combat) and a small fleet of M3 fighters... It isn't the right moment, isn't it?

Maybe you'll wonder why ask you about this when I've got my own answers, but I'm sure I'm not the first one who had such crazy idea, so if someone said "bring it on!" or something like that, I think I'd give it a try

I just started second time (got first one bugged...) and i'm already going for war with paranids (have 1m creds, 2 UT mistrals, few M5-M3 and just finished terran plot...). Only thing i might miss is HNemesis. I kinda think of it like best M6 (looks:guns). As for their crap you can get 'em elsewere (docking comp i get in arterus HQ). Anyway while you stay out of their sectors you're not in danger. And its fun to kill some transporters in safe sectors...

Well, you can get the docking computer from Otas HQ, and probably from some other Corporation. But the other item that only the Paranid make is the tractor beam. Other than that go kill the Paranid scum.

If you are looking for some more fighting and thinking then by all means go to war with those 'superior beings'. It adds a great deal of fun to the realtively safe and brutally peaceful (and to some boring) vanilla X-Universe.

Read the advice we put together in this - Mini Guide - before you head down this road though; there may be a few things you want to do first (plots, factories, etc.).

Mmm... I've really no interest in trading/stations. My only interest at this moment is killing things, so I'm definitely going to war with them. :D

By the way, I can't believe what I've just did.

Imagine that you are wandering in Brennan's Triumph and you take out some small wings of M8 + escorting fighters, and a few minutes later, a f***ing Paranid Zeus escorted by other ~30-40 M3 & M4 fighters (Medusas, Perseus & some Pericles) jumps to the sector right in front of you... And here comes the best thing: you destroy that Zeus and its fleet with a IA-commanded Cerberus and the Heavy Centaur. I think I'm gonna replay this battle

You do get a lot of military patrols passing through those pirate sectors. Mainly Argon and Paranid, but sometimes Teladi as well. You can watch some serious battles when the Paranid and Argon run into each other.

don't llisten to the naysayers dude! Hit them Paranid hard and fast and don't look back! Do yourself a favour and build up a lil first tho... It's a good idea to have some infrastructure in place so when you do finally get to fight some Paranid and they decimate your fleet then you won't be scratching your head wondering how you can continue the war.

I have been preparing my warmachine for a long time now, and one day, one day...those Paranid will cry for mercy! I have a similar fleet as yours, a decent M7, a corvette and a capable fighter wing. Thanks to my many many UTs and my carefully positioned complexes I'm growing everyday, even with all the casualties incurred by random Xenon invasions...

I gotta say that I hate the Paranid for some reason too, I just don't know why...three eyed buggers! Anyways if you want to go to war with a commonwealth race, make sure you've got enough ships to do the job... then double it and double it again...

I'll leave you with two quotes, one of which you can find in your TC manual...

If two ships will do the job, bring ten - Steel

Using a steamhammer is an effective way of cracking a walnut...provided you have a steamhammer and you care not if there is nothing left of the walnut afterwards - General Montgomery, commander of British Forces in Africa durin WW2 when asked why he needed so many men for the then new SAS

If it's what you want to do, then go for it. Do not worry about losing all rep with them, you can get it back when you want or when you decide to call an end to the war and its not even that difficult in TC.

Argons in Paranid border sectors, missions from Paranids in non-paranid sectors, Khaak and Xenon in Paranid sectors all are ways to get your rep back when you are ready.

For example if your rep is near the very bottom of paranid rank and they absolutely hate you, killing one xenon Q in one of their sectors will give it a massive boost. Not enough to become friendly again but a big step in the right direction.

One of the things I found most fun was boarding the TL's that carried stations back to the sectors you have invaded or done a lot of damage in. Free TL ship with a station on board is good spoils of war.

Kick the sand in the Paranid's face
  • PSG is not the uber weapon it used to be (but you can alays buy a factory for them first)
FBL just makes load bangs and does no damage
The docking computer is sold from lots of other places now.
You only need a handful of Tractor Beams for personal ships (and you can always buy a TB factory from them first)
I say, buy the factories you want from them, nick the ships you want from them (reverse engineer them later), then [VOICE="Darth Sidius"]wipe them out, wipe them all out[/VOICE]

Well beaten too it there, Roger!! :P

I'm thinking of going to war with someone, problem is, I have complexes in more or less every races space. Wasn't planning on turning genocidal, but now I am

Decisions, decisions...

I think it'll be the Split for me. I only have one complex in their space (a small self sufficient chip plant) and I do like their cap ships. Which I never buy and repairing my race rank is such a chore
