Damage figures for PBG

Post by DaveyP » Thu, 8. Apr 10, 11:05

Does anyone have any accurate per second damage statistics for the PBG? I've checked various spreadsheets and such like, but the figures given seem to be at odds with what I'm seeing it do.

Cheers.

That's because its an area of effect. The target receives 1 hit for evey hitbox hit by it, as opposed to every shot. Therefore, the PBG is usually doing much more than 10x the damage in the encyclopedia.

With a full loadout you can demolish a Frigate in seconds...

And they're horribly energy efficient! :D

I'm thinking of giving them a run out on a Medusa prototype (If I can ever get my pirate rep up enough to do the "Duke" plot)

problem is that its not limited to wingmen.. often allies fighting the same enemies seem quite attracted to your freshly created plasma :P

If they're in my crosshairs, they're there for a reason

Thing is, PBG's, like all area-of-effect weapons, don't respect your crosshairs. They'll damage ships you can't even see. So be warned. :fg:

Is that before or after firing? :p

I'll have to make sure I'm careful. I'll mostly be hunting Xenon, Khaak and Yaki, so I can probably be a tad less than discerning.

Be aware that the optimal distance for the use of PBGs is probably somewhere between 600 and 1000m.
Much further and it won't reach your target. Any closer, and the flame hasn't plumed out and developed it's area of effect yet, effectively delivering much less damage.

I'll be using them in conjunction with PBE's, so any if any seasoned PBG users could give me the heads up, I'd be greatful.

I think that would only be a good idea if you'll be very close a lot, so that the AoE of the PBG doesn't work well. If you can manage to stay within the optimal kill-distance and have access to enough PBGs, replace the PBEs with PBGs.

Also, PBEs will drain your weapons energy so much faster than PBGs

I've got 8 of each with a weapons switcher script. If I load up with 8xPBG and close to say 700 odd metres, how quickly can I take down a maxed out M3?

Cheers.

8 PBGs at 700m?

Of course, depends on the M3 (Falcon Sentinel or Mamba Raider, as extremes). But average M3, I'd say a couple of seconds...

AND your weapons energy will be at 95% :D

Until the cloud touches the ship. Don't blink at that point, or you'll miss it!

A load of 8 PBGs can wipe out corvettes in seconds.

Hehe, true. It only lasts a few moments longer if you are at knife-fight distance (which can happen quickly with multiple engagements). But then, I'm a mediocre pilot at best :)

Another thing that's really fun (if short) to do with PBGs is use them on Kha'ak Clusters. Fly straight at them and start firing at ~2.5km distance. The Cluster may have already broken up, but you still one-shot-kill all of them
