Post by N4N » Sun, 9. May 10, 16:07

I know is different company and diferent engine, etc... but maybe is a good idea to make a joint venture or just purcahse the engine from this people?

Please have a look, The X series with something like this can be awesome:

If you combine the X universe and comerce system, etc... with this engine, you can charge me even 80Euro for the game, I will buy it :D

I have to admidt that the space stations, ships designs, etc.. for that engine sucks. The Egosoft space ships designs and stations and graphics are away much better. However, the planetary, atmospheric, technology is amazing.

Why do you think Egosoft can't do something better?

I'm sure they could. But if the engine were available (of course which we don't know), it could be a good move.

Don't think he's saying Egosoft can't do better. But they won't do anything for X. That might be a life extension for X.

"warning, entering atmosphere" .....wait, WHAT!?!?! :o

It doesn't appear to have the depth of the X series, and I'd like to see how it performs with a few hundred stations and a few thousand ships.

but still... :o

By what i saw, i think it'd require dynamic OOS-IS switch, which would be very complicated to achieve. That switch would depend on distance and importance of objects, so >200k it would become all OOS. But how do you do that non-stop? it actually takes a while in most computers to load a slightly crowded sector. Imagine a mini-load stop every 20 seconds of flight, while ships come in and out of IS/OOS.

Some previous discussion.

EDIT: although it's maybe not particularly useful, reading it through again...

Let's hope with current PC hardware it's not a choice between the depth of X games and the incredible eye candy of this "shoot 'em up" example...."Carbo Cake" and "eat it" come to mind

Maybe the X-Shuttle gets re'd. The gates would still be there, but would become obsolete. :D

I think this people saw their MMO or GAme is going nowhere(many years with no any news) and they spend much more effort on engine, and I think engine is very good. At least for planetary part.

Hrmm. So they don't plan on actually making a game using their engine? In that case... I hope they can successfully sell it to someone who will. This is too good to go to waste. :)

Yeah..... is going to be difficult, how many companies are doing space sim games?

I can not really recall more than 4-5 games, and some are very old, like freespace or descent which is not even in space :D

That's the thing, unfortunately. Nobody (almost literally) is doing space games.

Honestly, I can't think of anyone equal in size to or bigger than Egosoft making a space game in the past few years. Ego's just about all we have left.

No pressure, guys. :D

There have been a few franchise games (Star Trek and such), iirc , and I'm sure I've seen a few released on Steam not too long ago (although they might have been re-releases).

And Eve, of course :).
