Best M6 for Bala Gi mission? [Reunion]

Post by jackmcbarn » Tue, 11. May 10, 01:28

What's the best M6 for the Bala Gi mission in Reunion where

you tow the M7 with an M6 and fight the Falcon Sentinel
? I can't get the Xenon P, and I can afford any other easily and plan to keep it after, so cost is immaterial.

UPDATE: Done, see page 2 post 2 for details.

IIRC, that thing has no weapons/shields and it's hull is somewhere between 1%-4% and for the cost of repairs you could buy a brand new one for cheaper.

I used a Centaur.

Any M6 can do the job. But why using and M6 when you have a TL with M2s, M6s and M3s as an escort?
There is no such thing as overkill!

That's not overkill.

Overkill is towing it with an M2, guarded by two M1's which are guarded by M2's and M3 fighter wings, with a second fleet around the gate the Sentinels come through. That's overkill.

Not even then ;).
But it's a good way to get some nasty buggers away that wait behind an important gate during that mission.

Which one will make it easiest to deal with what I mentioned in my original post with the least amount of backup? (And that would not be the junk heap, @Carlo the Curious :P )

The few times I flew an M6 personally in X3R I quite liked the Centaur.

Repairs are half price, iirc.

And I seem to remember that it gets repaired for free if it's the ship you use to tow it within range of the SY - although you don't need to use it all the way, of course.

Since max speed with a weight at your back end it's just up you. The Dragon can do it, the Centaur, even the Hydra will do if you know how to handle her. It's much dependent on what artillery you bring, since one slot is taken by the TB.

That may be, but

you get it completely repaired for free if you use it to dock at the shipyard while towing the yacht.
And that's several million credits profit right there. :)

Okay, I have it down to 3 choices, all designed to deal with

the extreme shielding.
  1. Centaur with 1 TB and the rest of the slots stuffed with MD's.
  2. Centaur with 1 TB, some IonD's, and some PAC's.
  3. Hydra with 1 TB, some IonD's, and some PAC's.
Which of these would be most effective?

I'd use the Centaur. But I'd not use IDs. Rather a mix of HEPT and PAC. Small hint: If you see trouble while towing: Deactivate the TB mount a gun in that slot and let the Yacht behind. It's saver for for it and you.

Don't use IoD's. Do as Jericho said: Pac & HEPT. The most dangerous enemies for your ship will be the M3's, and they'll be slow enough for HEPT's to get hits.

Okay, I'll go with a Centaur. However, where should PACs go and where should HEPTs go? Also, would the mass driver Centaur be any good?

I used a Centaur with PACS on its turrets and 50-50 mix with HEPTs as guns. I did bring a fleet of ships with me. The fights were not too bad, but I was glad I had some support.

What did you bring for support?

I easily pwned them all with 4 mass drivers on the front of a Centaur, nothing but the TB anywhere else, and no support whatsoever. I brought 50 crates of ammo, but didn't even use 20. At the end of the battle (and I'm not a great fighter pilot), I had about 20% shields left after getting nailed with two missiles. With some turrets, I probably would have had nearly all shields left.
