Is it possible to win the Lottery?

Post by Hawk-2k » Sun, 22. Feb 04, 22:25

hi all! im a long time reader, first time writer :D , and this is a question thats bugged me for a while, im truly loveing this game! cant get enough of it, but anyway, i was wondering weather anyone here has ever won the lottery that you can find on the Bulliten boards. I must of spent over 20k on tickets for it by now, is it there just to tempt you to spend your money? or can you actually win?

thanks

Hawk

I don't believe you can ever win.

Yes, it''s possible in theory, but the odds are extremely low. Like as low as...winning the IRL lottery :-/

I hope Egosoft will implement other (smaller) prizes you can win in lotteries, so your chances are improved (ie. ships, money etc).

Someone figured it out that if every person playing X2 bought 1 lottery ticket a day, it would take somewhere like 300,000 days to win or something.
Basically it is, but it isn't...

Obviously if you win I imagine the game gets rather easy.

Much lower than the r/l lottery - 8 numbers from 0 to 100!

One of the Testers or Devs did say that the "congratulations, you have won the lottery" message is in the code - why put in code that's never going to be used?

Have you tried opening some games executables in hex editors?

Some are riddled with unused strings.

It works, screen shots have been seen, posts made. However the odds are as you've all been saying close to more RL but not so hard. Main purpose is it does ruin the game when you do for the most part so it has been appropirately nerfed.

No, that's not what he said. He said that if every person playing X2 bought a lottery ticket, then it would take 300,000 days for one of those people to win.

There's always the possibility that you can win and even on your 1st ticket, the odds are just really really really really really low. But i'm sure someone will get lucky in the next year or two :P

Hmm

that's 8 numbers between 1 and 100,

that's 100^8

that's 100x10^16

that's 10,000,000,000,000,000.

Meaning you have a 1 in 10,000,000,000,000,000 chance of winning!

So if everyone on Earth played X2 it would take...

1,666,666 tickets for somebody to win if everybody bought a ticket 'til that event came to pass!

If my calculations are correct, it'll take an act of god to win the lottery, there's simply not enough days in out lives!

1 sec...

10,000,000,000,000,000 x 2500 = way over the jackpot!

Waste of money if you ask me!

Actually, the odds of winning the lottery would be

(8 * 7 * 6 * 5 * 4 * 3 * 2 * 1) / ( 100 * 99 * 98 * 97 * 96 * 95 * 94 * 93 ) = 1 / 186087894300

or about 5.374 * 10^-12
current fleet:
1 ray, 1 raptor, 1 dragon, 1 nemesis, 9 centaur, 1 nova, 1 orinoco, 70 manta, 1 harrier, 1 disco, 1 pegasus, 1 mercury
8 SPP, 1 ore, 1 silicon, 2 wheat, 1 cahoona, 3 crystal, 1 teladianium, 1 Bio Gas, 2 BuFu

Still not entirely correct. ;)

The odds are (100!/8!) / 8! to one (the chance to win is of course 8! /(100!/8!) )

Or to put it your way (9*8*7*6*5*4*3*2)/(100*99*98*...repeat...*10*9)
If you've got a scientific calculator the function is usually called "nCr".

BTW: i don't remember, weren't it 10 out of 100?

I have a better idea, try to win the lottery in real life, there is more chances :D
