Replaying X³ 1.4 (split from ancient patch thread)

This might be the wrong place to post this, but I have been happily playing this version of the game for about a year and a half. I played the Bali-Gi patches for a while and played X3:TC for a good 6 months and decided I wanted a long term, slow, stable version of the game before all the extras, a game where very little happens and the game moves very slowly.

Why? Because I'm working very hard outside the game and need the game to be simpler. Because I like flying through sectors looking for missions. Because after Bali-Gi, it was too easy to do too many things.

Thanks to Egosoft for all the versions of X. I have loved them all, but I'm pushing 60 and I like a gentler, less busy universe.

I do have 8 complexes made up of 200 factories. I am playing an Argon xenophobe who only buys Argon ships. I am finding that putting those character restrictions on myself make my game feel more like I am an actual person in an actual galaxy...

You could just as well patch the X3R to 2.5 and ignore the Bala Gi mission. That should not affect the pace much (although you might encounter hostile M3+).

Pushing 60 and still playing computer games? I hope when I reach you're age (I'm in my middle thirties) I'm doing the same thing.

Yeah, I still have LAN parties, a 4 machine LAN for DOOM and a 6 machine LAN for lots of other games but I need around 2 days to recover from a full day party, so they are getting few and far between.

In my current 1.4 game, I'm 50 rep points away from being able to buy a capital ship. Reputation advances very slowly, but that's OK.

I had forgotten that the Titan lacks front loaded GPPCs, so I'm going to have adjust tactics for dealing with Khaack caps ships.

The idea of playing a particular character with fixed attitudes is one of the things that got me back into X. I don't buy any non-Argon ships. That limitation has made the game challenging in new ways. I really focus on building up the Argon economy and defenses.

Not sure if I'll try this again with a different race. But that would be a LOT later.

The Bali-Gi missions, the M3+ ships, which I really did enjoy the first 3 times through and the complexes.
