The poisoned paranid is about to pepper his people with potshots
Heres how I see it. the Paranid have been a thorn in my side since X3 when they unjustly accused me of stuff I didn't do. Now I need to make money quick with this poisoned Paranid mission. I say its payback time.
At the moment I still have my freighter. I am picking up goods as opertunity arises, but the moment I have the cash, and suitable rep, I will procure a large fighting vessel and begin a campaign against Heavens Assertion.
I was wondering, should I succeed will there be any negative fallout or does my rep return as if nothing happened?

Split now give me death? Nah. Just give me your ship.
After you complete the 3 day mission Paranid reputation resets, so have at 'em!
Its my favorite start to see how fast I can earn 25m, and its also fun to keep roleplaying after time is up: Lifelong resentment against fellow Paranid, or maybe a deep grudge against the Boron who withhold treatment? Or perhaps set out to prove yourself with the Holy Priest Duke after having suffered such humiliation.
The ship you earn for getting 'cured' is (can be) pretty awesome, but there's nothing to say you can't wait till the last minute to retrieve it and see how well you can dismantle HA.

I picked up the Blastclaw in Veil of Delusion and capped a couple of Duke's freighters in Teladi space before I ran out of ammo. Then I went and grabbed the Skate in Menelaus' Oasis. I attacked a few more Pirates and Duke's in Boron space. Once I had good enough rep with the Boron and Teladi to land and equip I made my way up into Argon space, around Midnight Star and pounded on the Paranid. Every Paranid killed, and every Paranid ship capped and sold, increased my Argon rep.
I killed or capped dozens of Paranid TP, TS, M4 and M3 until the point came when I was KoS. Funnily enough this was at the second lowest rank and didn't require a change in rank - if I attacked one more Paranid they would shoot me on sight, but if I stopped they ignored me. So I stopped, and went about doing some missions.
After completing the Poisoned Paranid plot my rep was still at the third lowest rank, presumably it increased because I had done a couple of missions for them in Teladi space. I then forgot about them for quite a while, until I got the message saying that I had been recognised as a Friend of Priest Duke. I only had one UT running and the only Paranid sector I had on my map, therefore the only one that the UT would attempt to go to, was Heaven's Assertion.
I don't really know how my rank went up so high. What I do know is that I didn't get a noticeable increase in rank at the end of the plot. I did do a handful of missions given to me by Paranid, but that's it (and I failed two of those).

I played the softly, softly game... my Poisoned Paranid was infected by a traitorous family member and plans a surprise attack on his agammenon and HPV (boarding operations) with the intent of sending him for a space walk in a Kha'ak sector when I find him.

Are you sure about that? In X3R there were a couple of points where your Paranid reputation was frozen, but the game still kept track of the underlying changes and would punish you if you preyed too much on Paranid ships during the freeze.Smacksim wrote:After you complete the 3 day mission Paranid reputation resets, so have at 'em!

Seeing I have no idea what the starting rep was I will shoot first , repair relations later... presuming there s a paranid empire to repair

I did no thorough tests. I just can tell that I killed a lot of paranid during the "poisoned" period and when I delivered the money the rep was reset to neutral.pjknibbs wrote:Are you sure about that? I am at day 5 from a PP start and my reputation did not reset when I delivered the cash. I checked when the plot was finished and I had gone from second lowest to third lowest rank and that increase can be attributed to the few missions I did.

I think he is correct. I made almost all my money hunting paranid ships to get my 25m. When I was cured they went back to blue and friendly.pjknibbs wrote:Are you sure about that? P rep has reset for me every time. That's about 5 or 6 run-throughs of the plot.

My favorite hunting spots are Interworlds, Montalaar-LoH, Aladna Hill, and CBSW, in that order. Hunting 3-eyed's ships there builds Argon rep like nothing else. Interworlds is like a constant stream of Paranid of all sorts and usually no huge military.
The Heaven's Assertion start is faster than the more northerly start, because of both the 2 free ships (1 unique, 1 to sell), and jumpdrives at QH. The northerly start only requires Argon reputation for jumpdrives though (Legend's Home), and trading system extensions are closer at hand, whereas in the HA start you'll have to trek up to Jonferco to finish upgrading enough to run remote traders. Not too hard with the jumpdrive!
In the Heaven's Assertion Start: Building Boron reputation can include killing the myriad Split that travel through QH, QR, and Faded Dreams, but on the other hand just doing a few missions should be enough to afford jumpdrives, reputation wise.
In the north, your free ship is the Mamba in Loomies Legacy. Watch out for the mines placed between the ship and the south gate. Approach from above and leave going 'up' as well.
Teladi are the next reputation to build so you can purchase Kestrels, Best Buy and Sell, and Explorer software. Its a short trip from Interworlds to PTNI, or if coming from Lucky Planets, to Ianamus Zura
If you push things you can have a significant trading empire running @ around 6-8 hours in, while you cap and kill Paranid or do missions in a personal TM (M5, M3, Abandoned Ships).
One more hint for speedily making it to the key sectors you need to outfit your empire: Do missions into unexplored areas. The mission guidance will highlight gates beyond your usual ability to lock onto them. You can leapfrog sectors quickly with a jumpdrive this way. Buying sector maps can obviously also help with this, but sometimes gates are not revealed 'till you get close to these library-only sectors.

I got lucky early on. Was intending on crossing heavens assertion in a harrier but on the way a kind split sold me his mamba. I repaired and upgraded it and another split offered me a mamba vanguard! I sold my mamba and paid for the upgrade and armament. Then I went north through heavens assertion and watched an awesome battle, then backtracked and navigated to black hole sun. The Paranid now know what an awesome fighter the Mamba is. Also got some of those rep ruining combat missions. The payout is increasing so the loss of police licences etc is well worth it.
