Hammerhead missile

Post by silentmaster101 » Tue, 3. Aug 10, 15:36

Is there anywhere in Vanilla to buy these missiles, or a factory to make them?

I find the firestorm torpedo is as good and you can build a factory to make them.

The only fighter that can use Firestorms is the Medusa Prototype. Other than that, big ships (M6 and bigger)

And bomber don't use Firestorm torps, but Tomahawks anyway.

i meant torps in general.

my idea is to have a panther filled with bombers to destroy a system.

my raptor is already filled with solanos filled with tornado missiles for fighters.

that way i can have a self contained destruction force.

the only reason i favor split capital ships is the speed and larger hanger bays.

A single M7M is the "self contained destruction force" you're looking for--a fully-tooled missile frigate can level a sector without even trying.

Dock some Arans together, loaded with M8. Jump them in OOS, order the Aran to undock from the Aran, jump in yourself, launch all 56 M8 and order them to attack everything. That sector is going to be quite empty quite fast.
Maverick: Requesting permission for flyby.
Air Boss Johnson: That's a negative ghostrider, the pattern is full.
Goose: No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.
Maverick: Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz a Split.
Split: Split now give you .... Aaaarrriiiigh.

Where's the fun in leveling a sector remotely? You miss all those pretty missile trails, explosions and especially all that loot to pick up. Doesn't sound like much fun to me. :P

OOS any missile goes dumbfire, so no retargetting after target destruction. And as Nanook says, the beauty of M7Ms stays with the fireworks.

thats a good point i suppose.

on another note i sort of got my goal to work.

i just had a panther full of eclipses loaded with tornado's (missile chance set to 100%)

then i instructed them to all attack a zeus.

it went down pretty quick with only 3 eclipses lost.

i think two of them crashed into it though. (in system obviously)

Yeah, tornadoes are a good missile for AI-controlled ships to use against capitals. They're very fast for such a powerful missile, and suit the close-in firing technique of AI ships quite well. Good choice.
