Bala Gi Mission - is this normal?
I'm on the Bala Gi mission, and I've just arrived in Grand Exchange. I'm supposed to dock at the SPP. Unfortunately, there is an M2 Kh'aak Destroyer attacking the SPP, firing at it continuously. The SPP has already lost all of its shields and 10% of its hull.
If I get close to the station without using a docking computer, I get destroyed. When I activate the next part of the mission (i.e. escort the ship to the station) the ship gets destroyed every time it gets close to the station.
I'm guessing I'm in an unfortunate position whereby the above event is a 'coincidence' - but any suggestions as to what I might be able to do about it? At what point in the game (and in what ship) might you be a match for a Kh'aak destroyer?
FYI - I'm in a Nova.

In Reunion, the Gamma PPC has a sufficient range advantage over Gamma Kyon that you can take out a destroyer with an Elephant. Load a couple of PPCs in the rear turret and get the destroyer to chase you, then manage your speed to keep it in your range but to keep out of it's range.
The alternative is to come up with a way of delivering a lot of missiles.

Or you could choose the Devil's Eye approach.
From mystikmind2005 :-
Use your strafe keys to keep in place and keep firing.
Any M3 with decent lasers will work.

You don't need the Hype as long as you can get inside the Destroyer's rear blind spot.Step 1) Get a Hyperion with my LX docked inside
Step 2) order your Hyperion to auto attack the khaak ship
step 3) engage jump drive in Hyperion to another sector once combat commences
Step 4) making sure you are not too far away from the Khaak destroyer, hop in your LX and duck in behind the destroyer. You must get in there before your Hyperion jumps, the LX wont last but a few seconds on its own.
step 5) fire up its ass till dead.

You're lucky I remembered the name of the ship after three years!pjknibbs wrote:I think you mean Beta PPCs--Elephant can't put Gammas on its rear turret.Rapier wrote:In Reunion, the Gamma PPC has a sufficient range advantage over Gamma Kyon that you can take out a destroyer with an Elephant.

Alternatively, drop a station on the destroyer

He can't really use a Hyperion since he's doing Bala Gi.
The station drop works fairly well, though you might end up destroying it to get into the SPP after wards.
Consider using either Cycrow's cheats, or something similar to destroy the destroyer.
If you use the Devil's Eye approach, the Nova is amazing if you load it with mass drivers. 8 MD's make short work of even destroyers.

"step 5) fire up its ass till dead."
This sounds like the most horrible way to die.
Anyway, I had a similar problem to this in one of my reunion games where I had to dock at the paranid communication base (or whatever it is called) and there was a kha'ak carrier guarding it. I simply fired off a few missiles at it until I got its attention and drew it away out of play for about 100 km. I sat in SETA for a while until I was satisfied it was not a threat any more. Then I jumped back to the sector and completed that leg of the mission in peace.
It's a cowardly way to do it I know but in a Buster it's hard to be a hero.
