My combat rank and SETA woes: a story

Post by Zynk » Sun, 15. Aug 10, 01:02

A short story some of you might enjoy.

The other day i finally got around to buying myself a couple of M7s; a panther and a cobra. I was looking to equip the panther with IBLs to give it a nice punch. I order my springblossom to hit the only IBL forge in my game to buy some IBLs for me. I get there and only one is available.

At this point I remember there are some shows i recorded on my DVR that i still need to watch. I get in a random ship, and fly it out to the edge of a sector and engage SETA 6X while i go to my couch and watch my shows.

Unfortunately I fall asleep. I wake up five to six hours later and panic. I rush to my computer to check on X3. Everything is good. The forge is fully stocked with IBLs, and my UTs even made over 100 million credits for me. I continue my game.

I go back to the Final Fury plot and jump into another mission. The only thing there to greet me is a M6. Something is wrong. I look at the mission; I'm in the correct place. I look at my combat rank; OMG
It dropped a rank and a half from assassin 70% to warrior 20%

Im pretty mad at this point since ive been working to raise my combat rank in an effort to get somewhat challenging missions. I go outside for a cigarette to think things over. What can i do? It took me hours and hours of assassination missiosn to get that rank. I decide to go nuts in my universe.

I take the panther for a stroll to Senators Badlands. I kill a Yaki M2, countless fighters, and even their shipyard. Check my combat rank: its gone up to warrior 84% Hmm, out of ships, what to do. I jump to a xenon sector and declare war on them. I slaughter about 10 Ps, 15 Qs, and countless fighters. I get my rank back up to assassin 20%

Okay thats better, but still a way to go. I jump into another sector closer to the core. Ooooh Yay, theres some Js and Ks in here. Ive never fought full capitals before. I kill two M1s and an M2 (cant remember which is which j or k i just remember the designations) and their fighter escorts. Im feeling proud of myself at this point. I murdered a few capitals in my little panther equiped with only 6 IBLs. Unfortunately im only up to Assassin 56%

In conclusion: I learned a lot of important lessons that day. Combat rank is important. SETA is bad for your combat rank. I will never AFK SETA again. Last but not least: The Panther is an absolute monster.

The game begins to drop your combat and trade ranks after an in game hour of no input. e.g. It'd start to drop for you at SETA 6x after 10 minutes.
If I want to leave it running on SETA for a while, I use a macro I made that opens and closes the property window every five minutes, then rengages SETA.
Guns don't kill people, Split kill people.

I'm always up for a game of Monopoly.

Seta

It is good for short term use to get across large sectors, but as you have found ,it will reduce your rank if left running for extensive periods.

There is a Mission Director script to directly set the combat/trade ranks to the desired level.

Usually used by players who cannont/want not deal with a high combat rank but if you want more dakka... crank it all the way up and have fun.
My complete script download page. . . . . . I AM THE LAW!
There is no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

-Dude, I found the best way around the SETA thing is: First create all the factories and make all the money you ever wanted using SETA (Leave the computer on all week long!! :P ) Then once your ready, start to build up your fighting and trading rank and never use SETA again. I'm still finishing the plot -once thats done, I'll reframe from using SETA ever again -Then I'll DL my awsome stats!!
