Boron Fleet
Hey Guys
I am thinking of starting a new game now that i know the game and the new commands at last hehe.
I want to try the Boron start and only use Boron ships and factories, but are the Boron ships any good and can the Boron fighters, Carriers and Destroyers hold their own.. I know they were not that good in the last X3..
Super Thanks for your help

boron ships may not be as capable but they are by no means bad
it all depends on what ships your talking about m1-m7 are not really at a disadvantage than any other comparable race ships its just diferent.
the TSs on the otherhand i find are slow and not worth buying (at least for myself in my game)
the TL is a good all rounder tho

Yeah the boron ts are bad, but in reunion the dolphin superfrieighter at least had the largest cargo, the otas have come in a and nerfed the hell out of the boor boron. The fighters arnt the best but the pike and skate prototype are still decent ships.
The hydra m6 is a great ship except from the bad main turret placement making it hard to hit anything (they r really wide apart like on the springblossom)
The heavy hydra isnt worth the money at all, the cargo bay like on all m6+'s is just too small for a personal ship imo but would make a mean oos if u were rich

Boron ships are what i call a marmite race you either love them or hate them it seems.
The only major advantage boron capitol ships posess is they are able to wield he ion canon and ion weaponry. also the thresher is able to hold a full forward battery of ion cannons (though this would rape the capacitor it would make short work of a ships shields and its high speeds allow it to escape from it making it an excellent sabateour)
Cant be botherd going into one of my rants so i'l leave it at that

Boron ships are ok. Not the best but not the worst. The ray and thresher both work well. The thresher has no docking bays (freight drones can be used for collecting wares, etc...) and only has 3G of shields. But it works well as a sniper ship and can output good damage per second for a while with 10 photon pulse cannons. The boron fighters seem to be a bit lacking though. The boron m1 shark carries 45 fighters which isn't bad. Seems to fly the same as any other carrier. Fighting is the same as in any other carrier.
That's not the true strength of the Thresher. The true strength is that you can mount TEN MAIN GUN, FORWARD FIRING, PHOTON PULSE CANNONS WOOOHOOO! It's a monster. Charge them to full strength and let 'em fly... insta-kill a Q.Captain CAVEMAN!!! wrote:also the thresher is able to hold a full forward battery of ion cannons (though this would rape the capacitor it would make short work of a ships shields and its high speeds allow it to escape from it making it an excellent sabateour)
As for the rest of the Boron ships... they are decent although the Orca is a dang good TL. Fast and cheap means it is easily Top 3 of it's class.

hehehe, if u like that then u will love the ATF Tyr and its PSP's, its the same principle only better
but the thresher can only fire 2 fully charged shots before its drained of energy SO MAKE THEM COUNT!

Reviewing the Fighter Class of ships.
Boron fighter Doctrine seems to be designed around standoff with missiles. In each class the Boron fighter tends to have the best speed-to-cargo-bay ratio. This can allow the typical boron fighter to gain range on most other fighters in the same class, and it has a large cargo bay in order to supply more missiles. Many Boron fighters mount the Ion Disruptor, which can be used quite effectively as an anti-missile weapon. Including Swarm Missiles, as it can chain through many of them. A Boron Pilot under attack by multiple missiles, can quickly reverse direction and engage the Ion Disruptor to clear his tail. This is called the "Crazy Boron Maneuver"
In most boron fighters the laser capacitors are underpowered so they are best used in a defensive manner, and missiles are your main firepower. If guns need to be used, they should not be used for sustained fire, but more for a short high damage burst, and an extend maneuver afterward to gain range on other enemies.
Review of individual fighters as follows.
M5-Octopus Basically useless, but this goes for most M5's in the game.
M4
-Mako Since speed is your survivability trait in an M4, the Mako tends to be pretty good. Also, the Mako has wonderful cargo bay capacity, this allows it to deploy more missiles. If you use one for your personal ship, you should most definitely mount an Ion Disruptor, because missiles are your biggest danger in an M4.
-Pike Solid M4+, good speed, and decent firepower. It's basically an up-shielded Mako, with better gun generators.
M3
-Barracuda The Barracuda is an often overlooked fighter, but it has some tools that make it a very effective weapon if one uses every tool at their disposal. Above Midline Speed combined with PRGs allows this fighter to keep enemies at arms length and hit them with accurate, long-range fire. An effective missile platform as well.
-Skate In My Opinion the best M3+ Fighter out there. Again, often overlooked, but the Skate has some tools that combine on the platform to make for a most effective fighter. Firstly, it has the speed, only outmatched by the Chimera. It can get where it needs to be as quickly as possible. Secondly, unlike the Chimera, it mounts Phased Repeater Guns, which allow you to engage and hit targets at longer ranges than the PBE, with much less capacitor usage. These can be put in the turrets as well, allowing it to fire on missiles from farther out, and cover itself that much better. The Ability to mount Energy Bolt Chainguns allow for less stress on the Capacitor, and more sustained fighting. And of course it has tons of capacity for missiles.

I guess you have never heard of the Spitfyre. THAT is the best of the M3 class, in fact where other M3/M3+s fail the Spitfyre does not. It has the speed of an M5 and the firepower of an M3+. It's ability to mount MAML based weapons platforms also sets it apart from any other races'/factions' M3s by a vast amount. There simply is NO comparison. In fact the Spitfyre is the only M3++ in the game.yourpowersareweakoldman wrote: -Skate In My Opinion the best M3+ Fighter out there. i really don't like Spitfyre, mostly for limited weapons type. It's only advantage over other m3+ is speed (in my opinion ofc). I will go for OTAS Venti in choosing the best m3+ in the game (10xEBC m8 )
As for the topic, well... if you are about the looks of your ships, go for Boron ones (f.e. Mamba which is like 3x better than Barracuda in my opinion, looks like dildo ;p ).

If I remember correctly... the m3 deca ....or whatever that thing is called in the aldrin shipyards also has the ability to mount PMAML. I remember getting my destroyer raped in the new home plot when I tried to clear the fighter's in that sector south of Danna's Chance.Twest09 wrote:I guess you have never heard of the Spitfyre. the spitfyre annoys me because u have to mix the main turrets or remove the rear turrets to have enough room for m/am ammo remember its 4 cargo a crate and that leaves no room for missiles....
I dont like mixing turrets and or having empty turrets
Ive decided to use just empcs on the spitfyre now, interestingly the deca m3 (which also uses m/ams) has a bigger cargo space and the ai handles slower ships better in combat
4 or these decas m3s almost killed a splitt python so i can imagine what 40-50 of them could do when using a carrier. BUt i feel fighters that r ai controlled need missiles to survive.

Boron ships can be quite good if handled carefully. My current game is Boron only, and I find that, if you can bypass the generator issues, they perform quite well. As such, weapons of choice become EBCs, PBGS, and anything with a low energy drain.
Coupled with high speeds, medium to good shielding, large cargo bays and Ion-D missile defences, I am finding they can hold their own in a fight.
One thing to look out for is the Skate-when autopilot docking to a TM, the overly large wings can sometimes cause problems (I lost one on low hull in this fashion).
As for the Thresher, I managed, with 2/3 shields, IPGs front and HEPTs turreted to take out a Split Tiger and escorts without taking any hull damage. Not easy, but possible...
Sum, ergo cogito.
The Ray is also a pretty capable M2. Not as good as some, but no where near as bad as some either.
I think comparing the Aldrin ships with the Boron ones is a little unfair. They are basically totally over powered compared to anything, and you cant rp having them from the beginning of the game...

The Deca.cafe is the M3 "drone" I believe. And yes that plot suprised me quite quickly too And if you noticed, those ones are only armed with 2 pMAMLs.. Shame the ones you buy cant point-to-point jump like those plot ones do >_>
Edit: Was just having a look again, and its the M4 drone that can mount 2 pMAMLs So it was probably one of those I scanned.

i know how that feels, when i was flying my M4 Sabre i used a Magnetar TM to carry around the fighters i needed, such as those i captured and ones such as the kestrel to map sectors.. (which still didnt find the blinking gate to south east of gaian star nor the gate to gaian star ) when i finally captured the skate in my Sabre I was happy, it was my first heavy M3 but still havent outfitted it yet lol.. but getting the ship into the TM via orders was impossible had to manually do it, and when it was its wings spread out so much they went through the hull separating the ship compartments, how do you find Boron TM? havent inspected any for its capabilityDerkylos wrote:One thing to look out for is the Skate-when autopilot docking to a TM, the overly large wings can sometimes cause problems (I lost one on low hull in this fashion)
EDIT: also the spitfyre looks like the argon buster in its design with some modifications to make it look smoother. Deca Cefa looks like the L/LX and is basically that itself, quicker, less shields

But a full forward battery of photon pulse cannon would ass rape th capacitor and leave it a t a disadvantage for most of the fight.
Its best to only have about 4 at the front rest as cig or something like that.

In tc, other then the destroyer and thresher, i see no reason why i would fly any of there ships. Which is sad, becuase i love their designs. I am still flying about for daily buisness in a mamba raider. THat thing moves fast, and hits pretty hard.
Speed is the best advantage you get in the fighters imho. i can evade shots better and get closer to my enemies in the mamba, then i can in any other ship in the game, save the terran one that i havnt unlocked yet.
I really wish i knew what the devs intention was when designing them. In my opinion their ships just look fast, and agile, yet in reality they are lame ducks that arnt fast and agile.
