Will the Pirates really hunt me no matter where I go?
So I am playing Vanilla through as a relatively honest character. As long as you don't count that Elephant I liberated, and the Split really didn't get THAT upset about it. They revoked my Police License but let me buy another one right away. I did a bunch of build missions for them so in essence I am putting it to better use than they were anyway...
Anyhow, being a mostly upstanding citizen I HAVE killed a few Pirates. Maybe quite a few. Well, lots and LOTS actually. They always say the most charming things before the vacuum of space makes further conversation difficult. But during the first OTAS Corp mission where a substantial load of Poltergeist missiles sparked some more spirited verbal exchanges I heard something I hadn't before.
I can't quote verbatim as there was quite a chorus of AARRRRRRRRGG and UUUHHHHHHHHHGGG and the like on the squawk box but it was to the effect of: We will hunt you down no matter where you go.
I didn't think much of it at the time but once the escort was over it kinda stuck in my mind. Do the Pirates actually get mad enough to start actively hunting me?

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure...

That's the message you get if you shoot at a pirate station, or amusingly enough, a gate in a sector that has a pirate base. That base will also turn hostile towards you. Chances are a couple of your Poltergeists hit a gate.
"You were warned. Pirate ships will hunt you down like vermin." or something like that.

Only happens when you kill pirates and in the same sector is a pirate station located.SkullCowboy wrote:was to the effect of: We will hunt you down no matter where you go.
edit: Bah, got emu'd!
... what is a drop of rain, compared to the storm? ... what is a thought, compared to the mind? ... our unity is full of wonder which your tiny individualism cannot even conceive ... I've heard it all before ... you're saying nothing new ... I thought I saw a rainbow ... but I guess it wasn't true ... you cannot make me listen ... I cannot make you hear ... you find your way to heaven ... I'll meet you when you're there ...

Ahhhh, that's likely it. The escort for OTAS went through Hatikvah's Faith and we were chatting right at the gate to Aladna Hill.
So far I haven't had a lot of trouble with Pirates shooting up my Sats or molesting my ST's and stations so I was a bit apprehensive that that was about to change.

No, they're a pest by default.SkullCowboy wrote: I didn't think much of it at the time but once the escort was over it kinda stuck in my mind. Do the Pirates actually get mad enough to start actively hunting me?
There are times when pirates, before bailing out but, they tell me something along the lines of "Ok, here's my ship. But rest assured, I'll remember you". That's when I go "Oh, really?!" and fire a couple of times more and blow the ship to space dust before the pirate manages to eject.
Oh, and I laughed a lot at
I'm sure it would make any X3TC hunter of pirates giggle.SkullCowboy wrote:They always say the most charming things before the vacuum of space makes further conversation difficult.

edit 2 any help finding ways to kick the pirates butts would be appreciated
Re: Will the Pirates really hunt me no matter where I go?
I'm assuming you don't own a Terran destroyer (preferably a Tyr), so gather credits for a Titan, gear it properly (PPCs in front, PPCs [until you get IBLs] on the laterals mixed with ICs, Flaks for up/down and mixed anti-cap/anti-fighter weapons for the back), max (shields 4x 2 GJ), instruct turrets to handle fighters on up/down, enemies behind and all others, capital ships and keep jumping to every gate in all the pirate sectors you've discovered. Sooner or later you'll find pirate Galleons (M1), Brigantines (M2) or Carracks (M7) around those gates; destroy them and grab the most expensive of the weapons they drop (especially the M1/M2) and sell them wherever you want, preferably to the Terracorp HQ in Home of Light, a "sink" (as Nanook called it ) for any type of gear - you're able to sell there any amount of weapons/shields/missiles you want without worrying about buy limits like you would with equipment docks or militay outposts.kotorone1 wrote:edit 2 any help finding ways to kick the pirates butts would be appreciated
Oh, and if you're lucky to have those ships drop IBLs, equip them instead of the PPCs on the lateral sides turrets. As for any excess IBLs, there's no such thing. Stockpile them for any Commonwealth capital ships you will board/buy in the future.
P.S: If the Titan is too expensive, buy a Thresher (M7) from the Boron instead, since the Split Tiger uses IBLs for the front guns and I doubt you own IBLs. If that's not the case either, get an M6 with good shields (Heavy Centaur from the Argon, etc) and hunt pirate FIGHTERS instead.
i own (all full outfitted) Titan, Phoenix, Boreas, Tokyo, Panther, Shrike, Griffon, Cerebrus, Deimos and plenty of m6s. ive got millions in nividium mining, so buying a ship isnt a problem. BTW i know i have 2 board the Tyr to get one, but is there any other way?
Edit about 50m an hour in nividium (maybe more)
Simply said "pirates will hunt you down like vermin"

There isn't, but once you reverse-engineer one at the PHQ you'll be able to build them.kotorone1 wrote:i know i have 2 board the Tyr to get one, but is there any other way?
The easiest-to-board Terran vessels are those that you find in Asteroid Belt, although last night I captured an Odin (for RE purposes) that had just entered the sector from the Mars gate. And here's the mind boggling part: I used 20 ace marines but, for some reason, only 16 of them managed to have contact with the ship, the remaining four ended up floating in space for the full duration of the boarding operation. No, the pods weren't shot and no, the shields weren't up (2% is perfect for launching pods at). Anyway, despite that, those 16 marines survived and won me that Odin.
P.S: The Odin will have to wait quite a lot of time till the Shuri, Xenon LX, Fenrir, Mjolnir and Vali are RE'd, so it means that Argon Prime will be the host of a wing of Aegirs and Valis all that time: the Odin's escort ships are still shown as home-bound to it and, at least until I jumped it to my PHQ, they were all keeping the pace and box formation with the carrier.
We had quite the discussion here about the spilling problem here :Thunders wrote:There isn't, but once you reverse-engineer one at the PHQ you'll be able to build them.kotorone1 wrote:i know i have 2 board the Tyr to get one, but is there any other way?

SCUM : They may exceed you in number, but not in value.
??? Read the rest, that is only a part of what was said. Look more at the 2nd / 3rd page.Thunders wrote:Nope, I didn't launch the pods from 40'ish km. Why would I launch them from THAT far away? You can't finely control the shields from that distance. I usually launch the pods from 10-20 km away.

thats too bad would be cool if you had a nemesis, like a pirate warlord who's son you've killed or something ? and you get a set of missions where you can kill him and take over his syndicate/organisation get an m1 and some ships ?
Time is but a window, death is but a door way, and i've lost the keys

Buy a Panther Class, M7, Light Carrier. Get FLAK, then twenty good M3 Heavy fighters to protect the ship. Name and number both Squadrons.
Buy as many nukes and tomahawks as you can get for future use. Buy ten ships of M3, M4 and M5 for your own use, name those separately.
Then, very few ships will cause you any problems. Oh - and buy a large TS to carry spare fuel, Satellites, and ammuntion.
Your game sounds like it is getting to be fun, enjoy it !
