Hunting a Hyperion Vanguard, Please help

Post by Daggaroth » Sat, 16. Oct 10, 03:23

alright I have been told that the Hyperion Vanguard is one of the best ships to go after for your player ship, ( the best depending on who you talk to) but I am unsure on how to go and aquire it. so I am turning to you fine people in the community to help.

http://eng.x3tc.ru/x3_tc_ships/x3-ship. ... TAxMDU2NTE

I have a M6 Skiron as my current player ship, own a TL, a few M3s, few freighters, a complex, have about 20 mill in the bank and have a couple marines being trained in advanced all skills.

I have never used marines to capture a ship before but I am told they are key in this process.

please give me any information on how to go Hyperion Vanguard hunting, locations, tactics, equipment needed, everything.

skiron: 7 IPG and 1 PAC in the front, turn off the turrets. lower the shields. once down, do a headon charge with the hyperion, strafing upwards and using the PAC to keep the shields lowered. at about ~750m away, drop the marines. continue using the PAC untill the marines are in.

marines: 3 star minimum in all skills.

Those ships are usually patrolling in the southern Paranid sectors, the best way to keep one on sight is to have a M5 on follow order to make sure you won't lose him.
SCUM : They may exceed you in number, but not in value.

thanks for the tip about the M5, I just bought and upgraded a discoverer S and have it in position in Emperors Wisdom, this a good place to start looking ( the paranid area around there) or am I in the wrong spot to find a Hyperion Vanguard?

also, where can I go to upgrade my skiron to carry marines and launch them successfully? I have a TP currently sitting in a military outpost waiting for my marines to train but I did not know I could use my skrion to deliver my marines

I tried boarding with the Skiron for a while and I hated her. She's pretty unresponsive at the controls and turns like an ocean liner. I did however really enjoy using the Hydra for boarding.

Looking at the stats you could dismiss the Hydra. Straight off your losing 4,000,000 Kj of shield and 7,500 Mj of weapons power and your not even gaining in top speed but the difference in the engine and rudder tunings (not shown in the stats) will be noticable. Agility (hopefully) making up for the loss in shields.

Then there is the extra 525 units of cargo bay that can be put to good use. Stock up on hornet and wasp missiles.

You can fire off a few hornets about 16km out from your target. Reduce your speed a little and let the hornets gain then spoof the Hyperions turrets with wasps. Get the timing right and you can make up for the loss in laser power with missile hits on the target.

Anyway, whatever ship you use, remember when you attack the Hyp other Paranid ships will turn red to you. Try and avoid boarding while Capital ships and large Paranid patrols are in system. If you do find that other ships turn red to you, focus on the boarding and com (c) the enemy ships after the Hyp has been turned over to you.

Good luck.
She was right. Selection B4, His most recent hit, 'Nowhere Nuthin' ****-up,' a sentimental number.

If you want to do it in style you could always use the PHQ to RE the Griffon and loadup two with Ion Ds and boil the Hyperion's shields, weapons, and equipment off and then launch them from a TP ship after there is no danger to the TP.

I used a cobra (with turbo). 5 marines one pod. flails ana a few hammers.
1. Attack the hyperion from about 20km until it begins to chase you.
2. Turn and start to move slowly away from the Hyperion.
3. Ensure its shields are down when its about 10k away. and save.
4. launch a few flails and then one pod. (if the pod gets shot down reload previous save).
5. stay between 6-8km away (using turbo boost). Keep the shields down with flails until the marines have got through the hull.
ship should be yours. :)

Update: thank you for the tips, I have successfully FOUND a Hyperion Vanguard and now have a M5 following its every move. =) my next step is to figure out how to successfully capture it without either blowing IT up or blowing myself up.

I have roughtly 20 or so marines of various skill levels being trained in all skills( advanced) at the Alandra Hill Military outpost and have 1 TP sitting there to carry them around to where I need.

I figured I Would put each marine threw advanced ( all) training atleast twice to make sure they are properly ready for the job of capturing a Hyperion Vanguard.

other then what I have just mentioned are there anything I should use or not use, or lack for capturing the Hyperion Vanguard? or once the marines are finished training I should be ready to go and get it with my Skrion ( i figured I would ram the escort M3s to dust until just the M6 remains and then take him on solo in my M6 but I dont know that may be asking for spending a ton of time reloading lol)

IIRC there is always two floating around. If you cap one or one get destroyed then a replacement is spawned. I don't know how quickly the respawn happens though...

Just keep an eye on Preacher's Void and Consecrated Fire for the unique Paranid ships (Hyperion Vanguard, Agamemnon).

If you don't mind being a little less than vanilla, Scorps X3 map includes a ship locator script.

If you want to stay vanilla, you'll need coverage of Paranid Sectors.

Take 9 disco raiders. Set them up to deploy sats in the following pattern in the paranid sectors.

123
456
789

1 -20,0,20
2 0,0,20
3 20,0,20
4 -20,0,0
5 0,0,0
6 20,0,0
7 -20,0,-20
8 0,0,-20
9 20,0,-20

If they don't have weapons, you can adjust the friend/foe settings so they'll only do Paranid.
