Deploy Satellite Network - choose position

Post by machilleus » Thu, 28. Oct 10, 16:40

Question -
I'm trying to deploy a satellite network but don't know how to choose a position in the sector. I've read the post here http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... 42#2667942 but I can't figure out how to specify an x,y,z coordinate for the satellite to be placed at. Any help?

Use the numpad on the keyboard.

Also, home/end is zoom, and 'insert' is 'switch axis'.

I don't usually worry too much about Satellite placement.
Try to use the Advanced Satellites, and try to keep a stock for future use of both types of Satellite.
Do you know that there is software to arrange for you ship to do that for you.
Also, one's Satellite Network is a prime target for Kh'aak and Pirate attacks, wherever they are placed.

I like dead center about 15-20km up. Gives you a good view of most sectors, and pirates typically get busy before they get to your sat. If you keep your sat layers supplied, they'll automatically replace the sats as they're destroyed. Good to use a ship with heavy shields for it though, like the Pelican.

If you've got the money, a redundant array of satellites far from the gates in the corners works well. Even if one gets taken out, the chance that the invaders destroy them all is slim, and if it is a large force you should go yourself, given the current state of OOS calculations. My game doesn't seem to produce enough AdvSats to do it, though.

Use the CLS to fuel production in AP, and other CLS to draw from the AP fab and Military Outposts.

Or build an AdvSat Super Plex in Savage Spur.

Those are what I do.

Some of my starships will carry 80 or so Satellites. I try to keep some on all of them, that way, as they Patrol, one simply ejects a Sat from the Cargo Bay.
