Crazy M6 Centaur! Help me please!

Post by Godani » Mon, 29. Nov 10, 00:10

Hi everyone, I have got some big problems with a crazy Argon M6. I am a Federation Marshall, I do nothing wrong, but this M6 just turns red and opens fire on my freighter!
Spoiler
Show
I am on the Terran mission where you have to deliver the 200 Teladinianium to the Argon sector.
As soon as I enter Nathan's Voyage with my Vulture Tanker (which has nothing illegal with him), the Centaur turns red and destroys my ship.

I tried talking to him and saying: "weapon's fire was in error", because at first I thought I accidentally bumped into him. But that didn't work.

Eventually I just changed ships and sent my Tanker on ahead. In my sabre I waited at the gate and eventually he comes through (blue), he turns red for no apparent reason and tries to destroy my Vulture. I quickly said 'Weapons fire was in error' although I did not fire of course! He turns blue for 5 seconds and then turns red and destroyed my sabre...

Really... what could this be? How can I solve it?

(I also tried intercepting him with my sabre, and he is blue and stays blue while he is still in Belt of Aguilar, I didn't follow him all the way to Nathan's Voyage, maybe I can try that...)

EDIT: I checked and that I had the wrong Centaur. In fact, when I caught up with the transport in Nathan's Voyage he was there waiting, turns red 12 km away from me and my freighter... I'm starting to think he must be part of the mission... but I am in an M5 lol... Is he part of the mission?

Not part of the mission. I suspect he's mad at your freighter, not you. Open the freighter's command console, and check it's Friend or Foe settings.

If nothing else, sell the Vulture and purchase a new one at the Grand Exchange shipyard, and it should leave the new one alone.

It says Friend for everything except Xenon.
Thanks for your suggestion though :)

(I suspected it did say friend, since it has flown through 5 or so Argon Systems already.)

I did capture the Vulture from the smugglers in the mission before that, is that it then?
I will be quite annoyed if I have to buy a new one... I remember doing this always like this. I don't know if I'll have enough rep, and I hope the sale of the Vulture then nets me enough to buy a new one?

If there is one I would prefer an easier solution, plus I want to know why he behaves that way! Would not want such things to happen again.

Reply to the spoiler, I've read a few times on here that capped ships can still carry a baddie tag/flag, in a sense. So it will still be an enemy to some AI.

Well, depending on your Boron Rep, you could dock it in Wastelands, then head east to Tears of Greed, and then south to Queen's Harbor and get a Jumpdrive at Atreus HQ, then jump across to the west gate of Nathan's Voyage.

Or go south through Interworlds, the southern Paranid Sectors, the Southern Boron, south western Split, western Paranid, Northwestern Argon, Northwestern Boron, Northern Teladi, Central Split, North Central Teladi, and then back around to Omicron Lyrae, and south into Nathan's. The Centaur should have rusted to nothing by then. ;)

Is he only after the Vulture? If he is, then look around for some smuggler's. Buy the police license, and scan freighters until one turns pirate, then cap that, and transfer the goods to it, and try sending that through. It's cheaper than buying a different ship, but can be time consuming.

Thanks for the tips people... I understand if a ship is mistaken for a known criminal ship after I have taken it over... but this to happen specifically in one sector and only for 1 particular Argon, with all the rest leaving it alone? That's weird.

At least, as far as I remember from my earlier experiences.
It annoyed me last night, but now I think I will just find a solution some way, I think I might go for the jump drive option...

I'll check out if he is only after my freighter... (starts up game)
...
No he, also comes for me... he is red... the only Argon. I really do not get it... he either spawns in the system if I jump in after the freighter, or he enters just after the freighter does if I am there... is this a bug then?

Edit: tried once more: If I let him destroy the tanker he does not turn red to me.
But it's so weird... they enter Nathan's voyage blue together, but there he starts firing. If I change the time of arrival of the vulture, he still ends up in Nathan's voyage attacking :s Maybe I should change the time with a LOT then?

I guess I'll go for the jumpdrive trick (tomorrow?) when I can play again.

Tried it, then his entire escort becomes red. No doubt should I be able to destroy themI will have to rebuild my Argon rep from scratch... Meh, this was supposed to be a fast clean playthrough to get me the different starts... Guess GoD has different ideas...

What intrigues me though is what internal code makes this one Centaur behave so....
Are you veterans like:
Meh one will never understand GoD, he works in mysterious ways, or do you have the answer or are you surprised as well?

Do not try to fathom the ways of God. That way madness lies! :p

If you follow NS' suggestion and nuke the M6, you should be able to apologise to the rest of his wing...

Ok I thought I had a break, because I just found an express for 36000 credits, but I had my sabre sitting in nathan's Voyage while I was repair-lasering it, and the centaur turns up and turns red... I docked my sabre, but
I'm not sure that that's wise... Maybe I'll just lead the centaur away?

But in any case it seems obvious has a thing against ME and not against that Vulture Tanker :/

Edit: Ah shucks... the cargo is 5 units per unit... so I cannot carry enough :/
Ah well...

Edit2: Yes, luring the red centaur away to Terran space (where I presume it cannot follow, or it at least gets trouble if it decides to attack the orbital defense station where my sabre docked) worked it seems!

Full steam ahead! *phew* ;)

You don't have to deliver it all at once. You could in fact, have moved it one unit at a time if you had to.

Not actually, if you haven't started the Operation Final Fury plotline yet - you need clearance to get into Argon Sector M148, and the pass you get to deliver the cargo is only good for one entry, AFAIK. If you do decide to deliver it unit by unit, prepare to be swarmed by every police ship in the sector. Good luck with that. :D
Allergic to work.

If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.

Huh? I left after realizing I'd forgotten to acquire the Teladi... Stuff, and came back and didn't get attacked.

Hilariously, I did it in a P I'd 'acquired'.
