Recon drones are just ware like ore, e-cells etc. Fighter and freight drones are not.

I know that I've seen recon drones work before... but maybe that was in X3:Reunion... oddly, they stopped working in X3:Terran Conflict.... also odd that the devs didn't throw the script in from X3:Reunion to make them work in TC..

Does anyone know why?

Seems like recon drones don't have much of a role anymore. If you want to do scouting, you could easily get a cheap M5 and stick explorer software on it. That lets you do some recon and more with the additional functions of explorer software.

I think there was one mission in X3R where you got to fly a recon drone, but they weren't ever available at any other point; they certainly weren't a ware you could pick up and use.

Recon Drones where used in the Xtended Mod for Reunion. They where one shot only. You sent them to a specific location and they transformed themselves into an Advanced Sat. They weren't implemented for TC however.
