I just bought an Ares on EBAY about 25% hull damage.
Is it worth keeping or just dump it?

If you dont have another one, keep it and use it to board other ships.

And there is no such thing as a 'best' M7M. Each has their uses.

The Cobra has only 2 missile tubes, but has 2 rear turrets and close to 90 m/s speed. Because it is quick, it usually can stay out of range of anything you are boarding M7 or larger.

The ATF Skinir by itself can lay waste to the Xenon Core Sector, but Shadow Missile Ammo is hard to come by, and it cant launch boarding pods.

The 2 OTAS M7M's are diametric. One can only fire Boarding Pods but holds 30 marines, the other is a monster of a Commonwealth M7M.

The Gannet is a Brick with 6GJ of shielding, meant to jump into the heat of close combat and blow its targets to Kingdom End.

The Kraken has no turrets, but it has five missile tubes and good speed.

The Minotaur is average in many aspects, but some have found its 120 degree forward turret missile tube coverage helpful in boarding.

The Ares is a good all rounder, strong shields and good speed, but its smaller cargo bay means it cant hold as many missiles or jump energy.

The Yaki M7M does not exist in vanilla.
