Is there a small carrier type ship in TC?

Post by Flybye » Fri, 11. Feb 11, 09:31

Is there a carrier type ship that can carry multiple (4-8 M3-M5) ships at the same time in TC?

I'm curious to know because a few years ago I made a carrier that did just that for Reunion and am wondering if I should try to resurrect it to see if it works in TC or if I should not even bother if a ship like that already exists in TC.

The Aran is the smallest as it can only take 1, albeit, big ship.
The Hyperion is the second smallest as it can only take 2 small ships.
Then the Chokaro at 3 ships.

Ah very cool. So glad to see my mini carrier idea went into full effect with TC. Thx all. :)

you could also get an M7 like the Cerberus that can hold 6 fighters or the Shrike that can hold a few more still.... they would classify as mini carriers to me :P

Well, the reason I had originally made my ships was because we didn't have mini carriers in Reunion. These worked out great for the people that downloaded them because we were able to collect a few of our ships in a bunch and take them where we needed to. It was far more reliable than using AP and a LOT faster than a full size carrier and it could be docked anywhere.

These are the ones that I made.

Lol I love the flatbed one xD Want one.

But yeah TMs are awesome, especially in the early game. For me priority number one is to get a decent M3 to kill stuff, then get a TM to get to the places things need to be killed :D

Hehe thx. :D Too bad those ships stopped working after a while. I got a bit out of X3 and never got a chance to find out why people were no longer able to install them (probably due to different upgrades/patches), but they did work out great at one point.

I remember trying those in Reunion, and then getting annoyed when they didn't work. I'd actually love to see them back.

Perhaps mounting Built in Repair-lasers on the front, and a tractor beam mount in the back?

I'm sorry about that, but I promise you it did work at one point. ;)

These new TMs, they don't have any type of turrents on them?
Also, do the current tractor beams work with anything?

AFAICT all the TMs have Front & Rear Turrets, sometimes mounting 1 gun, sometimes 2.

The OTAS Zephyrus also has 2 guns in the "Main" cockpit.

AIUI the Tractor Beam requires a "Laser Energy" of 1000+KJ, for the TMs that'd be the OTAS Zephyrus, Split Boa, & Yaki Chokaro's (one of which you'll only see in "Modified" games).

Some M7s can hold a few fighters. Panther is pretty much a pocket carrier.

Yeah, all the TM's have front and rear turrets, but of those that do have the juice for the TB, most of them don't mount it.

And it's fine, I know patches can mess with things like that.

Actually the standard Chokaro is available in vanilla (it's buyable from the Yaki shipyard). The Advanced Chokaro however is not available in vanilla.

Aye you have to mod it in. Although it's a shame as it's an awesome ship.

Furthermore these ships have on average a good 400MJ of shielding. And are shipyard buyable for around 500k cr. Love TMs :)

Aye, before you get to a point where you've got 30M+ to play with a few TMs are definitely the way to go. AT one point I had 5 Chokaro's following me (in a Dolphin SFXL at the time), each loaded with 3 Eclipse. Being able to scramble 15 super heavy fighters when the Pirates come a-knocking is so much fun
