Poisoned Paranid start

Ok so I have "started" this twice, and you start in the system in a slow ass freighter.. how do you get out of the starting sector with out getting blown up? :P

Whats some good tips/advice for this start please

Use strafe to increase the speed of your ship (strafing up and left at the same time as going max speed forward will give you a pretty major speed boost) and try to avoid getting shot would be my main advice... :wink:

I was lucky and started in Heaven's Assertion. 30 clicks from the gate to Patriarch's Conclusion. Flew below all the police and through the gate. Didn't even get shot at.
Some of the other starting locations are harder.

You have fighter drones. Use them.

How do you get the Paranid to stop hating you after you cure the poison?

Paranid Rank is reset once the cure is delivered.

Maybe your friend/foe setting is wrong?

Head for east gate engaging 2 strafe drives, eject fighter drones, fly straight thru gate manually.

Run and don't look back and reload if you don't make it. It's not actually too bad if you start in Heaven's Assertion but sometimes you start further in and that can be really tricky.

The Unholy Traitor start is harder and you don't even get a hippy van for your trouble.

NOTE - your /race/ rep is reset to 0, but the stations' individual rep isn't - bear this in mind before you go on a freighter-killing/capping spree

I did this in my current game & I still have a few Paranid mines/fabs mad at me.. all for killing their owned ships before I got my Hyp! Fortunately I was able to hack the HE shipyard fairly early, otherwise I'd have really been stuck for some build missions..

It never occurred to me that you could press two perpendicular strafes
at the same time to get extra speed :oops:

So that would be a strafe speed of ¬141 added to ships vector then ?

Stay at max radar range from the cops/military & they shouldn't bother you. Head out of Paranid space ASAP, natch (so you can dock, preferably at a trading station to u/g the speed). Don't shoot at anything! Set any equipped turret to 'missiles only'
