Marine fight rank levelling
In my Poisened Paranid start I’ve been keeping a note of how my marines levelled up in fighting skill in my successful 26 boarding ops (to date).
It’s shown below as the number of boarding ops taken to achieve ‘m’ followed by ‘Starting Fight skill’.
1 – 93
2 – 87
3 – 86,88
4 – 69,77,75
5 – 76,68
6 – 60,73,53
7 – 55,60,51,59,56
8 – 49
9 – 35,38,39,40,40,38,36,33,31
10 – 31,34,35,34,30,36,40,38,35
11 – 36,33,32,35,32,31,30
You can deduce that I usually buy marines with at least 2 stars in fighting. Got a fully trained up reserve squad on a Gannet with fight skills ranging 2 to 12 left over from the Terran plot.
These are awaiting my first attempt on a Q as the starter wave before the A-team go in.
Hope this is useful.
Neil

Re: Marine fight rank levelling
I'm sorry, I don't understand. Are you saying the first number is how many boarding operations your marines went on and the second is how much XP they gained? Is a sequential list? Is the XP per marine or cumulative? Did you really board something with only one marine?Neil Depledge wrote:It’s shown below as the number of boarding ops taken to achieve ‘m’ followed by ‘Starting Fight skill’.
I am very confused.
First number is the number of boarding ops to achieve maximum fight skill, second number is the starting fight skill of the marines. The numbers look reasonable based on my own boarding experience.
What the OP doesn't say is how they trained the marines, i.e. 10 at a time spacewalk boarding, 20 at a time with M7M and boarding pods...

NOW it makes sense! So, based on that, it looks like each boarding operation adds approximately 7 to their combat experience. I don't think it matters if you spacewalk or shoot pods, as far as experience goes.vr01 wrote:First number is the number of boarding ops to achieve maximum fight skill, second number is the starting fight skill of the marines.
I would be curious to know WHAT he boarded, though. I think different ships might give more experience.

You can normally find the Aggy in the south Paranid border sectors. They also pass through the pirate sectors Desecrated Skies and Moo-Kyes Revenge when they are on patrol (good ambush point).Neil Depledge wrote:Ships boarded, all in combat mode, are 1 Orca, 2 Zeus, 7 Brigs and 16 Galleons. Not 'found' an Aggy yet . cheers, Neil

Hey wow,
these are quite reasonable figures. Thank you!
At least I can second an average increase of 7 points per boarding operation. I had a maximum of 8-9 points and a minimum of 4-5 points increase. There might be more OR less increases (10 or "only" 3 pts.), but I did not observe any of those.

Have to give that a try, as far as I'm aware none of the Boron military outposts have marines of their own. And I've found a few marines with exp. in the 70s and 80s. Generally, if they have 50 or more exp I'll recruit themem3e3 wrote:Confirmed. Picked up a few Boron marines this way also.Alan Phipps wrote:@ sjones25: "You found a marine with a starting fight skill of 93!?!" Buy a seemingly expensive second hand TP or M6 from a Shipyard credit sign mission and you might have a nice surprise.
