[X2] Leveraging M3s inside an M2
How is this done? Meaning, my M3s never seem to launch and do anything when I engage the enemy.
I have them all upgraded... I'm sure I'm just missing something, but not sure what that would be.

I can't remember how it is in X2, but in case your M3s have your carrier as homebase they should start, if the carrier is attacked. If they don't start, you probably have to command them to attack the desired target. In any case you should have a look at the TelCat - Teleporter Catapult from the bonus package

Lowly? I know Carriers were somewhat more awe inspiring in X2 than they are in X3, but destroyers were hardly lowly. As for your problem, if it's about autolaunching, isn't that carrier only? And if not, then
1) Homebase the fighters if you haven't already. (I assume you have)
2) Try not sitting in the destroyer as it is attacked - I find that if you're piloting the homebase ship fighters tend not to launch without a command.
3) Just give in and use the 'broadcast to all docked ships' command to get them to attack the enemy.
TBH, they were just general answers... Sorry I can't really help.

Allergic to work.
If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.

This is likely exactly your problem, Tolwyn. Ships aboard *any* type of carrier will not launch automatically if the player is flying the mothership themselves--you need to tell them to launch manually via a broadcast command if you want them to do anything.Master of the Blade wrote: 2) Try not sitting in the destroyer as it is attacked - I find that if you're piloting the homebase ship fighters tend not to launch without a command.
Yes, a (player-controlled) M2 is most likely better off alone than with a wing of 4-5 M3 with it (applies to both X2 and X3R).Master of the Blade wrote:Lowly? I know Carriers were somewhat more awe inspiring in X2 than they are in X3, but destroyers were hardly lowly.
A Carrier under AI control (but still in the same sector as the player's ship) will react to taking damage by broadcasting "Attack all enemies and land" to valid docked ships, which:
1. Are homebased to the Carrier
2. Have installed lasers
Gunnery Crews. That is what boosts M2 in X2. Hard to hire though.
As had been said, M2s in X2 don't need fighter support. You can use the docking slots for fuel tanks if you like (Orinoccos work best for this IIRC)
The trick is to have your own transport waiting at the dock so that you can pick up as many crew as possible as soon as the incoming military transport lands.Hard to hire though
Did they have the M2 set as their homebase? If they didn't, that's the only other thing I can think of that would prevent them launching to defend it.Tolwyn wrote: My M2 took on a Khaak cluster and was down to 65% shields and still hadn't launched its fighters. All the M3s onboard (Xenon L) have AHEPT and Fight Command Software...
