Aldrin plot question

I tried running a search for this but couldn't really find anything specific.

During the plot you're asked to link TUS 2 and 3 via the Hub. That's all well and good but do I need to actually keep them linked or am I free to use the third pair to do something else?
I ask because I'm currently using one of apricotslice's mods and I'd rather use it for my PHQ than that.

You don't need to keep en linked.
