I'm currently at the rank of Mercantile Rebel, and I need to be able to pass thru em to get a Split Panther. Not sure how I am supposed to improve relations if all they do is shoot my a min after I enter their systems. Any help?

You can try setting up a factory outside one of their border sectors to try to get some trade going.

Or you can look for a patrol mission that starts in a non-hostile sector and crosses into Teladi space.

You can find missions offered by Teladi personnel from any race sectors, just look for the lizard faces.

Also are you trying to enter core sectors or border sectors? if you can get into border sectors you can skulk around the edges of systems looking for pirates/khaak/xenon to pick off. or maybe you can find a pirate base nearby(within 3 sectors) and see if they can hack one of the stations to let you dock ( at which point you might be able to trade with them)

That's random, so just keep trying until you get mishes to your liking...hard or very hard missions give a bigger chunk of rep on completion, but just doing any missions for Teladi characters will help. Pirate Teladi included.

Profit Initiate should be enough to stop them actively shooting you, but might as well go Profit Opportunity, the early ranks are really quick to gain.

You don't have to pass through Teladi space to get to Split territory, although it kind of depends where you're coming from--you don't say! If you're travelling from the western Argon sectors, for instance, you can take a trip through the pirate sectors to get there, or, if you don't like that idea, you can go all the way round south through Paranid and Boron territory--you still have to go through one pirate sector to reach your destination, though.

Except that route doesn't completely skip pirates--you still have to pass through Hatikvah's Faith, as I mentioned (that's the one pirate sector).
