Wishlist for rebirth
my totally nonsensical wishlist for Rebirth (or future X-games):
1) first-person elements like walking around on stations and larger ships (nonfighter ships) and leading ones marines or mercs into battle.
2) an ingame content creation system (much like Spore, certain parts can influence stats and others are just fluff, with the stat-bits costing money to create.) to allow the player to develop their own unique fleet if they want.
3) a 'smarter' ship computer that can recognize when you rename things (voice-synth port?)
4) more empire elements like owning sectors, hiring NPCs, and createing corporate entities/factions
5) better command and control of large fleets and lots of fabs.
6)... really, just look at things like XTC or DDTC or even X-tra for ideas. expanding universes, proper, fully-fleshed factions, mobile fabs...
7) how 'bout an ever-growing universe, in that it's constructed from 'chunks' of sectors that fit together like puzzle pieces, with a forum for users to submit their own chunks into the story? so new races, factions and sectors are always looking to be discovered, and the universe really is different every time you play it! be nifty ay?
8) along the same vein, player weapon development, with a pool that get drawn from randomly (or semi-randomly) added to by users with dev approval (IE much like above, bugs ironed out, balanced, ETC.)
9) interactive planets
10) little touches like real civilian-looking ships, ships that exhibit wear and tear over time, proper turrets, racially themed stations, no massive spaghetti complexes, better relitive scale between ships, and suchlike. fixing the broken-@$$ OOS combat would be a plus as well.
anybody else have some input?

My biggest thing would just be better combat AI. The combat AI in X3 is utterly predictable. Ship flies out, turns, flies at you. I've always felt one of the largest weaknesses of X3 is the simplistic combat AI of enemies.
Second would probably just be more incentive to be an enemy of a race. The negatives far outweigh any benefits, which just makes a sort of 'boring' universe, because there's so much incentive to be everyone's friend.
In the same note, more active and meaningful wars between races. You get the sense, especially with Faded Dreams and Contorted Dominion, that once upon a time there were these great, really cool wars. Sometimes I see military skirmishes there, but it's all sort of meaningless.
Oh. Better English voice acting and scripting. 'Stop your grinning and drop your linen'? Really? .... Really? I know it's a German game or whatever, but half our games are Japanese, and they don't sound that hideous. The English voice acting is just awful. Probably the worst I've ever seen.
On the same note, having a main character with a voice and personality would be good again, especially if there could be cutscenes with characters that take place outside of ships. You'd think people's bodies were bolted to the cockpit seats.

Better piracy
- slave taking. None of this one pilot nonsense. I want to hijack passenger liners make'm walk the plank (Err nearest pirate docking port to embark on the new career.
- boarding. My bigger ships really ought to be able to fire boarding pods. Having a capital ship that is useless in all situations for boarding is sad.
Ships
- Do something with the battleships/carriers. They are outright painful to use. Very slow and they turn into keep my broadside pointed in a certain direction.(I think though that they already are working on that)
- More abandoned ships.Preferably randomized. I'd really like the chance of stumbling across a neat ship.
Missions
- More mission types! Set up trade routes, or improve relations of different species by ferrying diplomats. Ferry slaves to a new pirate port, to help in the fight against imperialism!

well I'ven't any complaints about the voice-acting (I found that line rather funny, actually, bringing a nice bit of humor to a not-so-humorous situation)
but I do definitely agree that the combat AI needs a major overhaul.
meaningful wars would definitely be fun, with sectors actually changing hands and big fleet actions on both sides. better pirates would be good as well, with several factions (potentially dozens) with their own enemies, ships and bases.
first-person segments are an obvious want, I'd love to do things like have customizable bridges that I can run around in in and out of combat, crew, quarters to 'sleep through' boring trading runs... having trade-lanes would simplify the AI piloting significantly, as freighters and their escorts (about 90% of the traffic in the X-universe) could just stick to the predetermined lanes instead of recalculated their course all the time.
obviously the playership would require switching to more active AI, but only then...
you'd also have to make it so you can't build stations mid-lane.
I'd also love to see Autopillok that has better (read not jujst rectangular prism) avoidence boxes, since on oddly-shaped stations (like the stock Terran an Aldrin stations) tend to have large boxes of empty space for no reason...

precisely! I'm fully aware that the devs will do what they want, and that we'll find out in due time what Reborn will be like. this thread is entirely devoted to what would be coll, nifty, or very helpful if it was in the newest game, within reason, in the hopes that someone dev-affiliated will read it and perhaps get an idea or two. I'll save speculation for when I have more to go off of
to put it simply,
this thread is not about what is going to be in the new game, but rather what you'd like to be ingame, and discussions thereof

The link Userene posted is entitled 'analysis and speculation'. Speculation implies what you think will be in the game - wish list is what you want to be in the game. That's two different questions.
Ok, here's the What I Want in X-R thread which is basically a wishlist.Mechanis wrote:to put it simply,

While this thread may not need to be locked, it will be. The current five existing threads pertaining to X-R are plenty for the time being.
