I'm at Battlemaster and all I get during a "hard" invasion are a J and a handful of fighters.

On the other hand, one mission during the Balance of Power plot saw me against a never-ending stream of Yokohamas, Katanas, and Claymores. At one point I was fighting against four frigates at once.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.

I remember back in 1.0 taking an "Easy" Xenon Invasion mission with a rank of Battlemaster. I was alone in a Blastclaw Proto (my biggest fighting ship at the time and no support ships) and the mission took place in PTNI HQ.

I expected to face a handful of fighters and maybe a pair of corvettes. What I got instead was a sizeable war fleet that had somewhere between 15-18 capitals (Corvettes, Heavy Corvettes, Frigates, Carriers, Destroyers) and well over 100 fighters (N, M, L, LX).

Needless to say after 5 tries the longest I managed survive (fighting) was just over two minutes.

Assuming we're talking about TC of course.

yeah...I too remember that on earlier versions(had similar experience with the khaak),hard missions really were hard. That is what i am talking about.Too bad they nerfed the missions.

I wonder ,if the numers and types of ships i have IS at the moment of accepting the mission, has an impact on what is spawned.

That's the thing though, it wasn't labeled as a "Hard/Very Hard" mission though it should have been classified as "****ing Crazy!" (like the Kha'ak gamestart in R). And I thought doing any sort of combat based missions in R with a Fight Rank of Legend were tough.

The only missions with a lower designation than "Easy" are "Trivial" and I don't think I ever saw a "Trivial" mission outside of the plots.

Those early version missions needed a bit of nerfing. As I recall when the player got to a moderately high combat rank those missions were spawning so many ships it simply couldn't cope with them all, so they stopped moving or shooting back. I kept constantly having to SETA back down a few ranks just to get the combat missions working properly again - no fun doing 'combat' missions where the player's ship is the only one with functioning weapons or engines.

Yeah - kind of lame to nerf the huge space battles out of existance somewhere between 2.4 and 3.0... I still think the missions should be tuned to the battlefleet you have in sector and not only your personal ship.

Yeah, that does seem a little weak. If you don't mind a modified tag I can highly recommend using Improved Races to make combat missions more fun. My north-eastern sectors (i.e. Getsu Fune, Thyn's Abyss, Zyarth's Dominion area) are overrun by Xenon war fleets. Any combat missions in that area generally have extra ships to deal with & because there are all those extra fleets flying around laying waste to stations & ships, it makes the one spawned for the mission seem less like it was conjured into existence for the specific purpose of being shot at by the player.

Ah the early missions in TC. See how we are already talking about them in nostalgia and the game isn't even dead yet!

Those missions were real kickers. No need to script in any extra fun. just take a 'average','hard','very hard' mission and you got your hands full.

I think those hardest missions should have been named something like 'Here x noobs goe to die', or 'f**k you and your children'. -skill levels to properly relay the message to the player how tough the missions really were. :D

But they sure did stir things up. I will never forget the amount of punishment the Xenon or Khaak could push out with those missions.

Ya, I can remember taking a "Patrol sector" mission whilst flying a Tiger and it spawned about 20 K'haak capitals (Destroyers and carriers) plus a s**t load of fighters and Clusters and the Tiger was loaded out with IBL's front and Flack everywhere else.....I had no chance :o

Pretty sure you can mess around with the OBS, as I'm pretty sure I saw the file in one of the CATs, or heck even swap em.
Just saying it forward: I give everyone 2 posts to make good, in context posts(proper english, as always, is optional). After that I'm ignoring what you have to say in that thread that's directed to what we previously were talking about.

This prompted the following responses every time
1) Total ROUT 2) Yeah! a challenge! 3) om nom nom loot!

And all of it was good. The first part especialy is a rarity. In mid to late game you really need to get cocky to get ourselves so beaten that you run away screaming like a girl. but in v1.0 it was sometimes normal. Now you just pop Carracks as they come in through the gate and surf the net on the side...zzz...another day at the office.

Say, i wonder i this could be modded? I'd love to have the ultraviolent v1.0 missons back.

The REAL fun begins when you get close to if not max battle rank and you pick up more than 1 patrol mission in the same area.

I ran a battle once w/ warlord rank that lasted me hours. Started the battle by picking up the 2 patrol missions that were in the sector at the same time and during the fight other protect and patrol missions poped so i grabbed them as well. Think i was running like 5 missions in that 1 sector. It got very overwhelming :) I called in my 4 Boreas ships and parked them at a gate as a pick / safe point when i got swarmed by too many fighters or my shields got low. I never sent them into battle just kept them there for alil help when needed.

Did all this in the SB. Had to call in a freighter w/ more MAML rounds once during this insane battle.

Can be very very profitable too. Each kill counting for all missions. Not to mention the loot.
Hard work tho :P

If you are looking for a battle with lots of capital ships, I can also only recommend accepting several sector defense and sector patrol mission at the same time. At my level each of them will spawn 2 or 3 capital ships.

But the real fun begins when you get Kha'ak and Xenon at the same time and they start attacking each other.

The hardest and longest battle involving capital ships I had so far, was my so far last mission during the Balance of Power Plot.

Nah - that was over pretty quick... took only half an hour.

My longest cap-ship battle was before the nerf where I accepted two patrol missions, one spawning 2 Xenon capitals + escort, and the other 2 Yaki capitals + escort. Shame since I was hoping for double profits.

Back then they spawned almost on top of you too... :P

Multiple missions at once was fun. Before the M8 appeared. Now i dont like those very much.

I want the v1.0 violence back. whine whine etc.
