Bala Gi Mission Game Lock-up, same place, every time.

I'm having a problem with the Bala Gi mission in Okracoke's Storm where

Show
you have to scout for enhanced yaki, just before all the squash mines appear
Every time i destroy the last yaki the game totally locks up complete with looping sound. Ctrl Alt Del is the only option here. As long as i don't destroy the last ship everything is fine. Here is my DxDiag...........

Try running the game in XP compatibility mode. There were numerous reports about lockups (in various circumstances) in native 64 bit mode. The last such case (successfully resolved) is here:

Ok, i've enabled XP compatability mode on the X3TC.exe file in my steam folder but still no joy, same freeze, same place. I managed to install via steam another copy on my wife's PC (different OS & hardware) and still got the same freeze. I think the savegame is to blame here.

I tried your save and it froze on my rig as well.

IMO it's a temporary glitch, because i made a second attempt, but instead of attacking with the Boreas i jumped it to Savage Spur, summoned one of your Heavy Centaurs and eliminated the last remaining enhanced ship with it (in fact, the pilot bailed). This time all went well and i received the expected mission update. I continued to play for 15 more minutes just to be sure that there'll be no more nasty surprises, but everything was fine.

I've no clue what's wrong with that save, but i'm almost certain it has nothing to do with your PC. My rig is Intel based with nVidia graphics and runs 32 bit XP.

tileguy, before you continue your game, I suggest that you do a memory test. Your particular O/S can do this at startup or when you boot on the O/S disk (I forget which). If you have a memory problem - even one bit going wrong for a nanosecond once every few days - it can cause saved files to be corrupt in any application running. In the case of Terran Conflict, the saves are very highly compressed, and are far more sensitive to a single bit corruption than if they were not compressed. The only way to recover from this is to revert to an old save.

Although you may be able to workaround the current mission, it doesn't mean that you won't continue to have problems later in this game start which you may or may not be able to workaround. Because the save has already been proven to be responsible or at least a trigger for the issue, it becomes highly suspect (at least in my books) of having a bit or two saved incorrectly. Ongoing, you need to diagnose and correct the hardware fault (if one exists) before you bother playing any more, as any resulting save is just as flawed as the one that first went astray. If the hardware involves flakey connections, I highly recommend the use of "Deoxit" or similar liquid / spray on every connection involving memory. This includes memory sockets, memory modules, CPU and CPU socket. This stuff puts an extremely thin layer of gold on any contacts on which it is applied. Each time you apply and then work the contact a bit (fit and then remove a memory module) it becomes like 50% better conductivity. i7 systems are notorious for contact problems on the CPU socket. Your problem (if you have a hardware problem) is more likely the memory sockets or modules. But then I'm not familiar with your particular CPU / socket. In any case an occasional memory test is good value on any system in regular use.
