Why are freight drones sooooo stupid?

I always have to run them over to get them. They don't "Return Home". I there a method I'm unfamiliar with?

The problem is with large ships oos trying to resupply-- I can get the drones to buy the stuff, but when they are supposed to "Return Home" they can't seem to dock with the host ship.

I've never had any problems with them docking. Have you got a free hanger bay? They won't re-dock if there's no room, you have to fly over them otherwise.

I'm using a Boreas. It has no hangers.

Then the only option is to run them over, unfortunately.

Have a freighter or a couple Falcon Haulers accompany the Boreas or jump in when resupply is needed. Or maybe a TM to allow drones to dock, then transfer over to the Boreas.

Well, if there's no way to get the drones to do the job, I guess I'll have to use a feighter to do the work. Thanks.

In which case there's no point in using Freight Drones. Best bet is to invest in a TS class ship with supply command software to resupply you.

In order to recall drones you need:
A) A full sized fighter docking bay (hopefully something that changes in the next game!)
B) One spare hangar slot to issue the command.
