M2 patrol paths

Post by Shads62 » Tue, 5. Jul 11, 09:14

Hi all

I’m playing an unmodded game of X3TC
I just capped my 1st M2 in Aladna Hill. It was a very opportunist capture. There was a bit of a tear up between the Paranid and the Argon with a single Ody taking on loads of Argon small fighters. Since there was nothing else form the Paranid in the sector I figured it would be an easy cap with no worries about losing rep as long as I capped and not killed the Ody. I had 10 marines almost maxed on board my Cobra and they did the job without loss and next to no damage even with sentry lasers on the Ody. Only one reload needed.

My question is this….
1. Has anyone ever mapped the patrol route of say the Boreas from Legend’s Home? Or the patrol paths of any other M2 for that matter?
2. Are there any more areas were opposing races have this kind of incursion into each others territory?

I Know I can cap in Core sectors simply by apologising but for me that is too much of an exploit and spoils the realism of the game for me so I’m looking to find isolated patrols of single M2’s or maybe one with just a few escort ships.

Easy enough to do yourself. Identify the capital you want to keep track of and then send a cheap M5 with no weapons or unnecessary stuff (in case of accidental loss if involved in inter-race combat) set to follow it. Check in every so often as to where your M5 is.

Oftentimes a roaming capship has its homebase set to a military outpost, so drop a sat in a sector containing an outpost and you can track the location/destination of many capships this way. Just check the Owned Ships list of the outpost to see where they are and where they might be headed.

You will often find military patrols in the main pirate sectors. Also the pirate sectors Desecrated Skies and Moo-Kyes Revenge make good ambush points for Paranid capital ships. Just drop Advanced Satellites in the pirate sector to keep a watch for good targets passing through them. :)
