Mouse Follow Mode Deactivates in combat
I have a carrier with a wing of fighters in it. I pilot that carrier myself and sent the fighters out to attack things. It seems when they start getting attack cursor follow mode disables itself, leaving me unable to steer until I activate it again.
It becomes very hard to steer when it disables a few times every second and using left mouse to turn doesn't work either. Also it is not me accidentally touching something on my keyboard since I have pulled my hands away completely and seen it happen.
I have the Steam version 3.1.1 and I am using the bonus pack as well as a mod that changes the HUD textures and one or two of the sounds, it does not give me the **modified** tag so I assume they're not a cause of this.

Make sure your carrier is not part of the wing. Wing command software can attempt to take over piloted ships and cause all sorts of issues.
If it is NOT part of the wing then I am out of ideas.

You could check that you don't have a controller, gamepad, or joystick plugged in that now and again sends a spurious code due to a sticky button etc that you normally might not notice in normal use. That wouldn't explain why it happens just as your fighters get attacked though!
No other ideas, sorry.

Indeed. if you have any other input devices at all, then you need to unplug them all and see if that fixes the problem.
Also, is your keyboard wireless? They can start to go funny if the batteries are less than supercharged!

I take it you checked the keyboard batteries and don't have any strange keyboard macros or similar running.
Maybe try a different type of mouse and driver in case of periodic mouse glitches? Again, I would have no explanation as to why that would only seem to show up when your fighters are attacked.

hi,
sorry to bring this thread back, but since the game has been released, i have been experiencing the exact same issue.
anyone has any clue to solve this ? :)
i play as a fighter in a wing (not driving the carrier) but the issue is the same. When combat is engaged and things become laggy, the cursor follow mode is automatically disabled, so i have to constantly hit the space bar.
the issue has occurred on several computers, with different mice (well, different Razer mice in fact).
EDIT : i'm not in the wing, but escorted by a colored wing of fighters, configured as "wingman for player" (so that i could use the shortcuts to attack my target or to protect me)

Yes... this is the thread I want to resurrect
I'm not sure how old this thread is, but I'm going to resurrect it because I'm having the same problem, and it's a big problem that I DID manage to fix before - a couple years ago. I apparently found out what the problem was and vaguely remember, but wherever I found that information must have been wiped from the face of the internet.
When I am in combat using mouse follow mode, IF I have wingmen in combat as well (I am not in a wing myself), my mouse follow mode will deactivate and I'll have to press spacebar again to reactivate it. This screws up combat and doesn't happen at any regular interval - it just happens and suddenly I'm flying straight towards an asteroid.
I noticed that this doesn't seem to happen at all when I do not have wingmen fighting alongside me. When I'm flying solo, I can do all the combat I want with no issues, but once I have wingmen show up to help me, my mouse follow mode deactivates.
Hopefully, someone will have some input for me by now... I wish I could find the solution I used before so I could post it in these threads... It's a huge problem unfortunately and I remember having it before, several installations ago... though my previous installation of this game had nothing of the sort.
If I find out what is causing it and how I fixed this in the past, I will post it in a reply... so in the meantime... anyone? If you have some insight into this problem it would be GREATLY appreciated, since the game is nigh unplayable when this keeps happening.
---edit---
I also do not have any peripherals besides a mouse and a keyboard plugged in. Occasionally a headset, but this problem occurs with or without it.
