Got my first M7 ship retrieval mission

Post by Greyhawk1 » Wed, 10. Aug 11, 18:46

What can I do now? All my marines are still in training so I cant use it for boarding training.

My first thought was slap a JD in it and land it in a station in a sector with a prowling Q in it (have two of those handy). Problem there is at 45ms its doubtful it will make it before the Q wipes it out.

Second thought was just get the 5m for the mission but my "exploit radar" is going mental...there must be some way I can steal it :)

Its a Tiger by the way...any suggestions?

If friendly with the Yaki , jump it to the Yaki Shipyard.

Usually the Yaki will deal with any police for you.

I sometimes tag along for support.

if you finished the goner plot you can jump into the unfocused sector, then cancel the mission and when the police spawn jump out again.
it might take a few tries to find an empty sector but it only takes 5 Ecells a jump so its not hard even with tiny cargobays
Split say:"you fly with too little speed, or too much weed"

Easy. As you say, put a jumpdrive in it and plenty of energy cells. Jump and dock it at the Military Outpost in Black Hole Sun. Go buy and and outfit it with max shields. Then abort and wait for the cops to show up. Once they do, have it jump to the shipyard if Family Njy, across Xenon Sector 472. Your ship's shields will protect it long enough for it to jump out, providing you're Out Of Sector, which you should be during the whole process.

The cops will now chase your ship and fly through 472 and most likely get wiped out. If a few escape, jump your prize back to the military outpost and wait for the survivors to get wiped out on the return trip. As long as you have energy cells, you can do this until they're all dead, but in my experience, unless you have a massive police force after you, they'll all be dead in one, or at most two, trips through the Xenon sector. :fg:

I do this when I'm either not friendly with the Yaki, or the ship is too battered and slow to get to the Yaki shipyard before being overtaken.

I tried that before and not a single police ship even got attacked...they all made it through in one piece. They were too fast to get intercepted by the slow Xenon ships.

Personally I'd dock it at a shipyard and sell it. Lose the faction, gain way more than 5M. But then, that's the no fun version.

If you want the ship, you can use the money you get from selling this one to buy your own; Tiger is available for sale.

Then you were just unlucky with the placement of the Xenon ships. I just did it, twice (Cobra and Minotaur), yesterday, and the cops were mostly fast M5's, such as Discoverer Vanguards and Raiders, with a few M3's and M8's thrown in. Not a single police ship made it through on even the first trip.

BTW, this won't really work for Xenon 347, between Eighteen Billion and Scale Plate Green. That sector is really spread out, and not enough Xenon ships there. I can often fly the whole distance between the west and north gates and not even get attacked. So if that's the sector you tried, no wonder it failed to work. Same goes for the sector between Grand Exchange and Zyarth's Dominion. Too few Xenon in too large of a sector. The only one that works for me has been 472.

Jump to IZ north gate dock at EQD, max engines. Install max shields abort or wait for timer to expire. Wait for the rozzers. Jump into IZ and watch the rozzers wander around. When the EQD is clear jump tiger out. If the rozzers are flying light weights M3 and below jump to Yaki shipyard and wait for the fire works. If the rozzers are flying heavy metal jump to PTNI or Family Njy. Remember to follow the rozzers into Xenon space and collect all the nice goodies that turn up. The rozzers will generally forget about what they where doing and just blast away. Works even better if you have acquired more than one new to you ship. Half a dozen M2s with escorts makes 347 a very entertaining place.

You may want to use the Paranid Prime EQD if you are headed to Yaki space.

Yes you can, if you're willing to accept the substantial rep loss.

You can kill the police but that ruins your standings with the race that just gave you the mission. The penalty for "stealing" is easily fixable; the penalty for stealing and then shooting cops is much worse to deal with.

Second about X472. Also, for fast M5s, if you dare to jump into the Xenon sector, the Xenon in in-sector combat mode will take care of the fast M5s sooner.

I recently got a retrieve mission for a Heavy Nemesis. At the time I didn't really know how to deal with the police, I didn't want to destroy them so I can keep my rep in tact. I noticed they just follow whatever ship you're in so I just docked up my prize and had them chase my fast M5 to the Xenon sector near 18 Billion. Then just put Xenon ships between me and the police and let them kill each other while I went off in search of weapons for my new M6+.

Are you sure it was the police response to the stolen ship? :? The ones that respond to these things always stick around the area where the stolen ship is docked. The only way to get them to follow you is to shoot them first, and then you have to do it to each one. They'll only attack en masse when the stolen ship undocks, and then only that ship.

Bottom line, they don't follow the player, they follow the stolen ship, so I haven't a clue what ships were after you, or why.

Flying it to the Yaki Shipyard in Senator's Badlands worked a charm. Although it took 24 minutes real time to fly to the shipyard and just barely made it there before the mission expired.

I got a Shrike and a small group of M5's as police which the Yaki had no trouble destroying.

Just finished repairing the Tiger. That has just doubled my number of capital ships to...two lol.

Currently its armed with a single IBL so its in OOS defence. Laser rating is 54k with just one gun lol.

That 54K is the laser generator and has nothing to do with the IBL's power. Check the ships gun menu and it will show you the hull damage, shield damage and range of each installed weapon. Your lone IBL won't do much against a pack of pirates, for example.

Oh well, it'll gear up when I get around to it. Just all my efforts are being thrown at the Hub plot at the moment.

It was the same police force that spawned when the timer ran out. They jumped in and I played cat and mouse for a while until I could get a fast ship with a jumpdrive to where I was docked. I ended up getting into my M3 and they just followed me. I never fired a shot at them and they only shot at the ship I was currently in. One of my Universe traders flew right by them.

I don't know what to tell you, maybe because the stolen ship was already docked when they spawned they latched on to me instead of the ship.

I had that problem once , a long time ago.

I could not leave a station without being set upon by the police ships.

Only that one time though.
