Would you prefer DLC or a traditional expansion pack for Rebirth? (if one comes)
X Rebirth will likely live up to its predecessors and have hundreds or hours of gameplay, but my guess is some sort of expansion will come. With the large amount of DLC in games these days, it makes me wonder if people would want DLC to expand Rebirth, or a traditional expansion pack.
I would favor a traditional expansion pack, because one, Egosoft has never done paid DLC, and have been very generous with additional content (Think of the Bala Gi missions for Reunion. A new series of missions, a station, and four new ships. Some publishers would charge $5.00 for that). Publishers/Developers have gotten very greedy with DLC lately, charging money for very little. I don't want to see Egosoft jump on this boat.
Finally, a traditional expansion pack gives more room for bigger features to be developed. Let your mind roam for this one.

How can one player flying one ship defeat a big gang of pirates?
Good flying, or reinforcements. Lots of reinforcements.

They can do both, but it's pretty complex, because we can make mods too, and some of the mods are pretty much DLC-level.
As long as Egosoft makes sure to fix all the bugs in a timely manner, they can release DLC's with the patches (or not), I don't care. IF the DLC is good, I'll buy it - otherwise no.
Expansions are also good, because typically an expansion improves the user interface or core gameplay in ways that DLC's don't.

No option there for both , so i did not vote.
I have only used a DLC once...Steam Summer Sale.
I did it for completion sake only.
If the DLCs from EGOSOFT were as good as the additional plots we've had since the first release of Reunion through to TC version 3.1 (or 3.1.1 for L3 Pilots), then I would be happy to pay a nominal fee.
After all...Egosoft is a business.
Updates addressing bugs etc. should be free downloads , as they are repairing the goods,so to speak.
However , having a DVD would also be good for any major update.
Except for the SuperBox, I have down-loaded every update since first release of Reunion.
I feel guilty, almost, when I think of the years of enjoyment I have had for so little expense.
But having said all that any charge for product update should not be too high , else many will not afford to pay , and others might just refuse to pay.

Both, id like to see a expansion pack, but DLC to supplement the exuberance can give the game longevity, to clarify.
say for a new plot you pay £5.00-£7.00 i would pay that i dont know about you depending if the plot is any good mind you, i dont want a 2 hour thing, for £5 id want at least 5 hours game play from it i dont think thats to demanding
but a expansion would be great if the UI sucks *cough reunion cough*

Death is not a hunter unbeknownst to its prey, one is always aware that it lies in wait. Though life merely a journey to the grave, it must not be undertaken without hope. Only then will a traveler's story live on, treasured by who bid him farewell. But alas, my guest's life has ended, his tale left unwritten

The term "DLC" does not say how much content is in it.
Also, DLC is often bundled with physical releases so it stands to reason that you can press a "DLC" onto a CD as well.
Long story short, beyond assumptions there is no difference between "Expansion" and "DLC".
My complete script download page. . . . . . I AM THE LAW!

Call me a cynic, but in my experience most modern games are stripped down to the basics and the parts which should have been there at release are sold as 'DLC' to grab a few extra bucks from the 'consumer'. I would prefer Egosoft continue to treat us as loyal fans and not try to screw us over for a few extra dollars immediately after release.
I also think it is great that Egosoft continue to support their games with additional free content even years after release - it shows that they really care about their games and their fans. It is this attitude that has kept me coming back year after year since just after the release of XBTF. I'd hate to see them turn into just another money-grabbing 'content producer' caring only about their bottom line.

After what happened to my DiD save with DLC I'd say "Thanks but no thanks" to DLC.
For more information about DLC problem see here:
Steam DLC eats my DiD save
3 weeks have passed since the problem was first reported, and 2 weeks have passed since Xenon Slayer confirmed the bug, but there was not a single word from steam.
Just say no to DLC!!!!

Neither. I'd much prefer that Egosoft keeps the present paradigm of adding free content to patches. It gave us the Aldrin Expansion plot, the Treasure Hunt plot, the New Home plot, the Balance of Power plot and a host of other improvements. Why would you want, or expect, it to change?Would you prefer DLC or a traditional expansion pack for Rebirth?
