As someone else stated in the Rebirth thread, there's also the announcement thread that speaks of "Egosoft and Deep Silver Announcing Rebirth". Being that Deep Silver is the publisher of the other X games, I'm gonna assume they are publishing Rebirth as well, which would imply a boxed version.

prizes for the competition in the stickies above...
Prizes:

* The winner receives a signed copy of X Rebirth, a Steam X-Superbox and a poster
* 2nd place gets a steam copy of both X Rebirth and X-Superbox
* 3rd place gets Steam X-Superbox
* The Lucky Loser will also receive a steam copy of X Rebirth
So I am assuming there is both a boxed and a Steam edition.

its possible for boxed games to use steam as their patching service and as drm-lite, but i don't know of any indication that this will be the case for x rebirth.

or to put it another way, having a boxed version doesnt rule out a steam requirement.
Irrational factors are clearly at work.

Half-Life 2 was like that...it required you to sign up for a Steam account even if you'd bought the boxed version. No idea what the situation for X-Rebirth is, but since it's not being published by Valve I would seriously doubt it's a Steam exclusive in that way.

Anyway, since this is an X-Rebirth discussion, please use one of the existing threads. Thanks!
