tractor beam

i've installed my tractor beam on my mercury super freighter xl and tried to move my silicon mine l but the tractor beam refuses to activate what could be the problem

The mercury does not have sufficient laser energy to sustain tractor beam fire. Although some ships can mount it, they cannot use it :roll:

An M7 that mounts it should be fine...

tractor beams, repair lasers and mobile mining lasers all use the same slot on the laser chart
your problem is the mercury super freighter xl does not have the laser energy to power the tractor beam.
fot that you will need a M6 or larger ship

thanks for the clarification, the mercury lists it as installable lol. any cheap ships that can actually use them cos i'm a lil stuck for credits

don't need an M7, and M6 is fine, provided you don't want to fully deck it out an M6 frame only cost about 5-6mil

You don't actually NEED an M6 (as several TS class vessels can actually fire it) to use one. It, iirc, needs a max Laser energy of 1000mj, which the Argon Mercury & variants, with 850mj energy, just don't have enough.

ok so i checked what ts class ships have 1000 mj max laser or over and only the split caiman miner has the energy to fire it but its such a slow ship i didnt want to buy it but i have now lol. thanks for all your help and advice

Thought I would post here instead of starting a new thread I make to many :lol:

Anyway is there a way to get a TB without being friends with the nids I am at war with them due to RP reasons and I know its easy to raise rank but that would ruin my game. I think I read somewhere there is one floating in space?
I could work that round my RPing. Or would blowing up the TB factory make it drop some? That would go well with my RPing (A daring raid on a paranid station :D ) even if it takes a few reloads.

Unfortunately no. There are none floating in space that I know of, and the times I killed the TB factories they didn't drop any :(

Kinda ruins Rping then. Any chance you can cap a ship with one? weapon dealers? Capital ships?

If worst comes to worst I will just have to go undercover to steal secrets from the paranid war machine.

No way to get one without being friends with the dirty nids :(

On the plus side you don't really need one for anything except towing mines... So you can still build complexes. Just supply them by mobile mining.

Owell gives me an Idea for a modified play through though,

Could have the board station script. Then whenever I need supply's board paranid stations steal all the product I can then self destruct because after all its a guerilla war I am running here.

Haha I want to try this now damn me and thinking of new things to try again.

If you use the station boarding script and the station repacking script, you can steal the entire station ;P
And as a bonus when you redeploy it, it will have proper player style resource requirements. If you simply board it, it will have NPC requirements. Secondaries and all that stuff.

That sounds great I usually have around 6-7 games going at once theres just so much diffrent play styles to try. Anyway thanks for the advice dont want to hijack this thread any more :lol:

Actually, that isn't strictly true.

Some time ago when i first started playing pirate game rather than trading, i came across a Paranid High Tech Trader in Hatikvahs Faith, who happened to have 5 TBs in his hold. After a few PBE rounds zeroed his shields he finally jettisoned all his cargo in a bid to get me off his back ;)

All happened in vanilla, 3.0 patch :)
