Destroyer tuning

Is there any way in X2 to tune a destroyer or carrier which has already been bought? I'm just wondering if, when i get to AoA 1st, if it would be a good idea to make my 1st detroyer a Xenon K.

I think that if you personally dock it at a shipyard, then press 'escape', you'll get the Equipment Dock menu before you undock.

If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.
