Tormented Teladi start would like some advice
Starting in a harrier and with 1.700 cr, it seems like mission impossibly to earn 2.25 mill in 11 hours. Therefore I would like to hear others advice or how you did it.
Edit: AP forgot to write that

Trade, run the stock market, do missions, cap ships, the usual.
I just started one myself interestingly enough, I'm on 500k so far after about 2 hours from capped M5s from station defence missions.

Hijack fighters and TSs in pirate alley until you have the credits. Might want to grab a freight scanner so you don't get any nasty surprises like MK2 drones or PBG equipped fighters. A few M3/TS bails should get you a few million credits. Just pick one race who lives adjacent to pirate alley to cozy up with so you can actually sell your ill gotten gains to. I suggest Argon because Cloud Base SE is 3 hops from Split Fire and Light of Heart is 2 hops from Hatikvah's Faith

Legitly, you could earn your way to a mineral scanner for Asteroid scan missions (could earn the money via missile salvage and/or return ship missions), then earn enough for a Disco (sell the starter ship, or wait for a random buy me a ship mission that will take it off your hands for a few extra credits). Move over the mineral scanner and buy a cargo life support, then earn money from Asteroid scan missions and Quick Taxi's. Then earn enough for a TP ship which will allow you to do Luxury Taxi missions, too. You can then make 2 million with a single Taxi Mission. (anyway that's what I did in TC, without using abandoned ships and whatever other exploit, while keeping my fighter rank at 0%.)
Heh, your eyes are going to fall out of your head, when you see what unlocks after you complete that game start.
But it, too, is easy.....

AP: Visit the warzone, gather up missiles until you have enough cash to play the stock exchange.
Took me less than 2hrs real time (5hrs seta). I just wanted to activate the paranid start. Just buy any natural (except glowing crystal) you see indexed 100+ at the PTNI se, all naturals (except glowing crystal) will settle out below 50 index before jumping up again.
I had a very exciting experience with this last night. I hadn't tried Tormented Teladi before and wanted to give it a shot. I had explored most of the galaxy in a previous game so I felt pretty confident in it.
Since I reference systems and items available for sale I've put the Spoiler around the write up.
So it was fun and challenging but is doable, even if I had under a minute to spare and had to finish it floating outside of a space station in my suit.

First, I flew up to Omicron Lyrae and Treasure chest and ran about picking up missiles with my starting ship. I discovered that not every missile fit in the hold (costing me money) so I docked at a shipyard and sold my starting ship to pick up a Discoverer since it had the larger cargo container size (even if the hold was smaller). After picking up a few more missiles I saw a terran capital ship go up. Being the Teladi Scavenger that I am, I rushed into the middle of the firefight to pick over the wreckage and scored a pair of Firestorm Torpedos. At 75K per torpedo these aren't chump change.
After selling the haul from that, I flew over to the Void of Opportunity and picked up a cargo life support system. From there, I ran a couple of quick taxi missions for people in a rush, but it became rapidly apparent that I would need a bigger ship so I flew back to the warzone and picked up and express. I also attempted to get a jump drive in Elysium of Light but my reputation with the Goner was lacking and feeling like I was under the gun I didn't want to take the time to improve it.
So, it was back to PTNI Headquarters and surrounding sectors for me. I managed to ferry a bunch of Marines here and there. Also, some Wage Slaves... I mean ore mine workers, were transported. These missions were much, much tougher without a jump drive but given the distance I'd have to travel to get the jump drive it just wasn't worth the flight.
Finally, on a taxi mission I saw the holy grail... a ship for sale. I bought the Mercury Super Freighter XL for the low price of 18K credits, finished my mission and flew over to repair the ship. I sent it off to dock at the shipyard and continued on my merry way. No sooner had I gone through the gate than I received the message that my ship was under attack but it was too late. No new ship and no pirates to be seen.
I ferried about for a bit, running any nopn-combat mission I could (the Express lacks guns, you see). I cam across another tanker for sale, this one a Demeter Hauler but the same thing occurred. I went through a gate, it was destroyed.
Finally, with and hour to go the ship yard in PTNI lit up with two ships for sale. They were individually good deals so I bought them, flew them out, and fixed them up. I sent them back to the shipyard for sale and then docked myself and sold both them and my Express and I bought a Kestrel and tuned the engine to the maximum and sold all the unnecessary stuff like shields.
Looking at my funds I was 5,000 credits short and only had about 45 minutes to get back to space. I sold everything on the Kestrel except the Trade Extension (taken from the Express) including the SETA. I then flew back at 605 m/s so SETA was hardly necessary. On the way I took any 'Defend the Station' mission I could get. I found a taxi mission that was destined for Tears of Greed but alas I had sold my Cargo Life Support system.
When I arrived I was about 2K short. I saved the game (the first non-autosave of the entire game to date. I like to live dangerously I guess) and once I was within comms distance of the idiots that had impounded my ship I ejected the trade extension software and I went for a space walk to go pick it up. I send the Kestrel to the nearest shipyard with 5 minutes to spare.
It was then a race against the clock. I had the advantage with a fast ship but time was against me. Finally, it arrive at the shipyard and I sold it, giving me more than sufficient funds to finish the mission. I commed the station and demanded my ship. It then came out to pick me up.

For me it was not that drastic, as I gather the 2.5m in just 8.5 hours, with 3.5 hours to spare.Calithulu wrote:I had a very exciting experience with this last night. At first, I just collect missiles until I can afford an IRE. Then I just do defend station mission until I capture a Disco. Once you have a disco/Yaki Fujin, you can do taxi missions. Just concentrate on a few races in order to maximize on the mission reward (higher rep = higher reward). ALso the Stock Exchange is also a gold mine.

L_B_P, Tormented Teladi is my favorite start in TC !
In TC, you've got to get a little $ to start, so you can get Fight 1, then Fight 2, another shield, then a 5MJ shield. Starting with almost nothing and clawing your way up is one of the attractions of this start. So I follow a pirate and pick up loot. I look for a Station Defence mission, and use the opportunity to cap an M5. If it is a better ship, I change. If not, sell it. I will start a mission docked at a station, so I can reload if I want to. (Free salvage insurance!) I always have an eye for loot, whether from pirates, or pirates being attacked, possibly fleet battles. And I always know the location of the nearest pirate base, where I can buy some of what I need before I have rep with the major races.
I go through this progression: Harrier, maybe Yaki Fujin, Disco, any M4, then M3, and finally a Mamba Vanguard. (The Fujin is one of those 50 - 50 things. It can mount a jump drive and Cargo Life Support, but it has a weak laser reload.) An M3 and most m4s can cap the big Paranid TSs selling for $1 Mil, or pirate M3s selling for $1 Mil, and some for $3 Mil. Any Duke's ship is a prime target.
I have played this start quite a number of times, and have made the time limit every time. Only once was it close. I'd rather do this with my own efforts than pick up a free ship. Where is the challenge in that?
I begin capping what I can, whether TS or fighters, either pirate or Paranid. If nothing, and I mean nothing else turns up within 4 hours, I'll start capping civilian ships. Sometimes I've start up money from good trades (in Small items, of course).
I know this is for TC. Use it if you can in AP.

And keep an eye out for 'scan for valuable freight' missions when passing through pirate sectors. You'll need a freight scanner but in a fast ship in a populated sector you can easily scan 100 Million worth of freight so even the 1% payout is rather profitable.
"There's an old story about the person who wished his computer were as easy to use as his telephone. That wish has come true, since I no longer know how to use my telephone" — Bjarne Stroustrup
I hadn't realized how great "Scan Valuable Freight" missions are until recently. If you're lucky, you can pick up 3-4 of these missions at the same time, and if there's also a few cap ships passing through the sector (with military escorts), you can easily scan 100+ million worth of goods. At ~4% reward for each of the 3 or 4 missions, you can easily pick up 20 million or so credits for a few minutes of work.
