So I just started Albion Prelude and capped a Yaki scout

Playing the Nostalgic Argon start.. you start with a really weakly equipped buster with 2 basic guns and 1x 1mj shield.

I've upgraded its engine/rudder up to max. Havn't made much money yet for getting a good transport ship going on so mostly just doing combat to make money, or leeching off of yaki/pirates kills (on either side) for dropped missiles.

So I finally come across a transport needing escort and in the process of making 27k (yay best so far in this game lol) and picking up cargo drops, I manage to cap one of the Yaki Fujin scouts.

Now.. its a scout.. and its only got 4 guns max rather than 6, and 3x1MJ max rather than 3x5MJ.. but I only have a single 1MJ shield anyway.

I know yaki are supposedly rare and elusive/hard to catch, are their ships really noticably better etc?

Wondering if I should swap ships to the Fujin, or at least save it for later. Or find that command software that lets me make it scout for me and upgrade its speed. maybe that.

Well the Fujin is an M5, it depends if you're going to be doing any taxi missions with it, it's not particularly impressive. If you're friends with the Yaki, you can buy from their shipyard- one of the ships that is worth getting is the Tenjin as it's an M3+

Fujin Raiders and Fujin Sentinels are some of my favorite scout/taxi -style utility ships (the plain Fujin is slower with less acceleration, but more cargo space). They're very maneuverable and responsive, and can even wield PACs if you want to get into a brief firefight. There'd be swarms of them in my empire, if only they were buyable (only the plain Fujin is sold by the Yaki).

But they're tiny, lightweight M5 craft, not really built for combat. Your starting Buster, an M4, is probably the better combat ship in most circumstances. At the very least, it's got a much bigger laser energy pool and better generator.

I also had a Yaki Fuijin pilot bail (on my first combat mission!). I like the Fuijin quite a bit, just because the one I have is significantly faster than my Discoverer.

That being said, it is no more combat capable than any M5, and cannot maintain fire with a single IRE indefinitely. Two of them will drain your batteries in about 10 seconds (long enough to kill one M5, but you'll be dry firing at the next one)

EDIT

I should also note the Fuijin is really cheap to repair; I just repaired 23% damage on mine for ~2,300 credits.

There is a cheaper way to repair fighters. Eject from your ship and shoot it with your suit's repair laser.
