hi all
just downloaded ap, tc, and reunion offa steam and i have very annoying mouse lag in tc and reunion, strangly theres none present in ap, cannot seem to find any adjustment options in those games, hoping that someone has a fix for this, the rest of the graphics running fine as i'm running a modern machine

There is a solution for this with nvidia video cards, set maximum pre-rendered frames to 0 or 1. I have no idea what the corresponding ATi command is, however.

Unless you have a variable resolution mouse then I am afraid it is entirely down to what mouse+driver and in-game settings you use. TC and AP using the same game engine yet acting differently (on the same rig/mouse/driver and at the same screen resolution) would probably be down to differences in the in-game settings in the game controls profile - have you tried copying the custom controls profile from X3TC to X3AP?

Meanwhile, but not strictly relevant in this issue, your AMD Radeon graphics card driver and both your RealTek and USB audio drivers could do with an update.

@ Shootist: ATI/AMD call(ed) that Flip Queue Size and it was only adjustable in the obsolescent ATI Tool Tray add-on.

my mistake the mouse lag is present on tc and ap, there is no problem on reunion.
I have tried to update the driver on the amd card, but it fails to install the driver.
changing the screen resolution to 1024x768x32, seems to help a little.

That does not sound good. I believe that the usual AMD advice is to uninstall or disable the old Catalyst suite before installing the new to avoid such issues. Detailed instructions are in the tutorial videos in the bottom half of here.

In the absence of any other things to try on your mouse issue, you could maybe try varying any v-synch and triple-buffering options in-game or in the (updated) graphics control panel.

ok have uninstalled the complete suite and drivers and reinstalled all, off the installation cd with the card, as the online installation failed to update both the monitor and sound drivers.
problem is still persisting.

Forget the game, synch and buffering for now, your inability to update drivers successfully is far more important.

The card's installation disk is just to get you working again so you can update. The drivers on the disk will be well out of date.

Let me get this clear, you uninstalled the old AMD driver suite, went to the AMD page I linked above, put in all the correct details into the boxes and then downloaded and saved the Catalyst Suite 11.12 offered. Correct so far? You then tried to run the Catalyst 11.12 package auto-installer but you got 'installation unsuccessful' messages at the end. Is that right too?

Then you went to the RealTek update site, downloaded the latest driver package for your OS and ran it but that failed to install as well. Is that also correct?

If/when your OS asked if you wanted to run or save or allow the installations, you did say yes? Do you have a cautious monitor/protection application that might be preventing updates?

Have you tried running the rolling benchmark? From my experience that card probably isn't suffucient to run the game at a playable framerate. If the FPS is low that will cause interface lag, especially if you're well into a game.

I agree, Radeon HD 6450 graphics card is really slow for modern games.

What comes to mouse lag in X3-series games, I'm not aware of any reliable way to get rid of it completely. Faster frame rate indeed gives better mouse response, but I would strongly recommend to use keyboard for navigating in menus.

out of interest how do you monitor the frame rate?
the game seems to my limited knowledge to be quite smooth, but i've yet to enter any large combat situations.

OK, back to things you can try to see if it makes a difference:

1. In the game first start up splash-screen, in Graphics Setting, you can select and deselect Disable Vertex Size Optimisation.

2. From your AMD Catalyst Control Centre tool tray icon, in 3D Settings there are a 'Wait for Vertical Refresh' options.

ok
1 have selected disable vertex size op
2 have selected the wait for vertical refresh to allways off
lag still present

also
selected and deselected vertex size op while the vertical refresh was selected as always on, this had no affect.

Sorry, then I'm out of ideas short of changing your ship control methods as mentioned a few times above.

I suppose you could try a different downloaded mouse driver/mouse control panel if only to see if it makes any difference at all.

well thanks for your time and advice alan, its just a thought but would you say that the problem is with the radion card and would it be worth investing in another card and if so could you reccomend one?

I honestly cannot say that it is definitely down to the graphics card. I would be upset if I were in that situation, bought a new card and then found the same issue.

Shootist mentioned that an adjustment to pre-rendered frames on Nvidia cards can address this issue. AMD/ATI called it Flip Queue Size and only put the option in their separate Tool Tray utility which is now fairly elderly and may not be suited for more modern cards of theirs. I suppose you have nothing to lose in trying their tool tray and seeing if it makes any difference. I have a possible link here but cannot personally vouch for the tools or the site.

I also tried the ATT Tray Tools and the Flip Queue Size options and none of those options seem to work. What annoys me is that my system is fairly high end! AMD X6 Phenom II and AMD Radeon 6870 X2 in Crossfire!
