Nvidium mining in AP
So I'm in Perpetual Sin having broken up the Nvidium asteroids there with hornets, then I set my Mistral SF (with Mobile Drilling system x3) to collect rocks and it gets 1,400 Nvidium. So far so good, only I find it hasn't bothered with the larger rocks (which I break up with my TL), only when I break them up does it actually "collect rocks" as per the order I set.
My question is, is there something I need to configure on the turrets to get them to fire the MDS when appropriate, or is it a case of only those TSs that say "miner" in the title that will actually do it, despite all the miners that I know of only mounting MDS in the turrets and not up front?
I don't mind using my TL to collect rocks per se, I just dislike having to wait for my shields to recharge after collecting just a few rocks (using strafe keys), even with SETA and would rather have my ships doing it for me while I'm off building stations

the MDS is currently broken due to changes in the OOS calculations.
if youre talking in system, they wont ever fire.

Just saying it forward: I give everyone 2 posts to make good, in context posts(proper english, as always, is optional). After that I'm ignoring what you have to say in that thread that's directed to what we previously were talking about.

Acting as designed - the command 'collect rocks' does exactly what it says and nothing more. If you want the ship to break sub-asteroids and bigger rocks then you need to use the 'mine minerals' or 'mine and trade minerals' commands - and even those are reportedly a bit X2 sagt Bussi auf Bauch in X3AP compared with X3TC for some reason.
BTW, you don't need a miner variant or the MDS to remote mine or collect rocks. Any fitted-out TS or over with a turret or front weapon of any type is quite adequate to remote mine. I quite like TMs as miners.

A dog has a master; a cat has domestic staff.
Collect rocks only does that, and the rocks have to be of collectable size… good for ore, silicon, nividium.
Mine minerals is only good for ore and silicon, can not use it for nividium.
Easiest way I’ve found for breaking down nividium rocks to collectables is with mozzies, load up a few hundred missiles and machine gun the rocks, 10-20 minutes work, job done, then let your miners go collect it all (OOS recommended, fast and safe).

I noticed that you couldn't mine Nvidium via commands, as it happens my TL is carrying a couple thousand mosquitoes already so I'll put them to use and see what happens
I was under the impression that the "miners" were simply referring to ones that could actually mount MDs. On the plus side, it does mean that there's more nvidium out there than I thought, hopefully when I sell it, it'll boost my trade rank to the point that station construction missions will offer more than just half a million profit each

As it happens I have a couple of captured Blastclaw Prototypes for resupply, though because my TL was already among the rocks I was able to hit them effectively, the ship would only pick up the 3 newest targets when a rock was broken up.AL'42 wrote:Well I hope you’ve got a fighter docked on your TL! The turn rate on a TL is abysmal and you need to get in close < 1km to hit the rocks in quick succession…...Sovereign01 wrote:as it happens my TL is carrying a couple thousand mosquitoes already
I was pretty mad when, after collecting about 500 Nividium I turned round to find that my Centaur must have rammed itself to death as all that was left of it was a message saying it had been destroyed by an asteroid
