(AP)Random Death in Asteroide Belt

Post by Viivrabe » Sat, 11. Feb 12, 22:44

ok thats twice now that i have died in "Asteroide Belt" with no cause.

I'm flying around in my M5 on my way through the sector (friendly with both the the argon and terran) in the middle on no were (no asteroids, or even small rocks, clear empty space) no ships in duplex scanner range, no missiles coming after me, nothing.

I'm just flying then BOOM

GAME OVER

WTF
I'm playing suicidal squid so it is unacceptable to just spontaneously explode
(no mods, suicidal squid)

AFAIK there are a few matter-antimatter mines in Asteroid Belt

That or it was a very fat spacefly.

The war sectors can have huge numbers of stray missiles flying around with no target because the original target got blown up, a fast M5 could easily intercept one, boom… before any warning.

Well you ran over something, so far you’ve got mines, fat spaceflies, and missiles…

how large are mines, i have never actually seen one?
and what dose a space fly look like?

also i think i might have found a possible cause of the problem.

I was flying around in a stolen ship from a "recover the abandon ship" mission. i aborted the mission to get the hostile ship to come and try to take it back in an area were I knew I could easily loose him.
anyway i think that the time limit still counted down and acted like i hadn't claimed the craft (it was a 3hour time limit) so when it ended the ship just self destructed as if it were still sitting in space.
i'm going to have to look into that.

also i said twice, and i was flying around in a ship that i had aborted the mission on for that one as well.

but a mine seems like a possibility as well.

To keep "Returned" ships, do not use the abort button.

I normally jump it to the Yaki shipyard.

When the time limit expires,Police are sent to destroy it,but the Yaki don't like, since they are pals of mine.So they destroy the police ships for me.

The ship is then ready to use safely.

There are other ideas, like jumping it the opposite side of a Xenon sector

Other than that, stray missiles or mines are prime candidates.

Space flies ! :D

That was not a serious conjecture.

However they are yellow in colour and look like translucent flies.

The most harm they do is bump into you causing SETA to stop , or to just shake your ship a little.

They are an illegal energy source for ship's engines

@ Viivrabe: I gave you the reason for your getting blown up a couple of days ago at the end of this thread of yours.

Here is a line for a spacefly...

Pretty close on how they look. They are small fast and hard to stun. And look around roids too. As for some reason they like them.

A mine doesn't show up on scanners unless you hit it with the cockpit's "tracking crosshairs" just right and at close range.
They are extremely small objects. You'd be very lucky to spot one visually.

At around 700m it detonates for a damage of around 42 MJ.

This should be... sufficient... for the OP's M5. =)

There is no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Yeah. I think you're right. But, they can or should be able to be spotted around 1 km most of the time if you are going really really slow and are looking for them. How well lit the sector is makes a lot of differance too. Squish mines I believe are slightly easier to spot.

Don't find mines to be real useful. Expecially since they don't have FF settings light the LTs do.
