X3 TC Drone Dock problem

I've read that you should be able to dock fighting drones to TM ships that have hanger bays open. Well for some reason its not working for me.

I am in a Boa (TM) Split TM with 3 of 4 hangers open. (edit: Said Boa has every software upgrade I could imagine being related)

I've tried with both regular fighter drone and MKII fighter drone

Docking isn't an option. I try to broadcast to all drones in sector, I see a possibility of 'dock' but its greyed out.

Any suggestions? Is Boa not good enough? Does it require M7 class or a capital ship.

I am using vanilla X3 TC (from steam) and the official bonus download that doesn't require enabling mod editor.

The protect order will have your drones dock if there's no threat around you.
