I only know for TC, but AP is likely the same...which game are you playing? :p

Typhoons are Teladi only. Check out the Ceo's Sprite, PTNI HQ and Grand Exchange shipyards. One of them will sell it.

EDIT: damnit pulza, you ninja'd me again! *shakes fist* :p

If you've explored the universe thoroughly, the encyclopedia should tell you where you can buy most things.

much left to explore, not in the financial position to anyway... would need heavy firepower to clear xenon sectors in the middle, hence the typhoon, love the long range and massive dmg...about 150 of those in my hydra and i can finally finish off those 3 nasty Q's and the J that are blocking my trade route

Hop in a fast M5 (Teladi Kestrel is ideal, others still work fine) and go jump through every gate you see. You can go round most of the Xenon sectors, and a Kestrel can fly through them no problem.

I always try and get the majority of the sectors mapped sooner rather than later. Helps with trading, helps with missions if you can jump straight to the closest gate, and means you don't have to hunt around for factories when you need them.

heh i normally carry 30-40 but since only 2 known fac make them and only 2 more EQ dock have them...most of the time they are low on supply or have none whatsoever, also a Q takes bout 10-15 + some silkworms to do the job from afar....i can finally maneuver well enough to do a single Q in the hydra with lasers and if get bored i just fire up missiles but 3...need a bigger b...loadout...

on another note...i tried to speed up a download by pressing "j".....what does this mean

Are firestorms swarm missiles? Single missiles are easier to shoot down.
Maverick: Requesting permission for flyby.
Air Boss Johnson: That's a negative ghostrider, the pattern is full.
Goose: No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.
Maverick: Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz a Split.
Split: Split now give you .... Aaaarrriiiigh.

cooldown for 1 firestorm launch = 5secs
8megajoules dmg in 40 secs

cooldown for 8 typhoons = 2 secs
each missile does 240kilojoles
(this im not sure if its .240 mj for the 8 combined or .240 for each missile...assuming lowest)

40/2=20
20*.240=4.8 Mj

would need some testing to see what avg% of firestorms reach their target vs the % of typhoon, which in my exp is bout 90% (also consider u dont need to strafe with typhoon in order to avoid a single line of missiles that can be shot down by just point and shoot)

Biggest problem with firestorms is the stupidly large blast radius
I fly Terran for the accents

ima get to firestorms, but for now seems its cheaper to do typhoons since i already have a mini complex running doing silkworm (amongst other things)

Yeah, problem. Launched too close together, the first one can trigger all the others following to detonate prematurely away from the target. And you can't launch any faster than the cooldown rate. So there's no quick barrage of Firestorms, with the result that it's easy for the target to pick them off one by one before they get in range to do any damage.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

Yeah, problem.
Perhaps. Missiles do suffer from being unable to mix in with energy weapons. Using one will basically counteract any attempt to use the other. Part of this is due to the high density of space combat; dog fights tend to be pretty cluttered. Shooting down your own missiles is another issue that constantly plagues missile use.

Firestorms may not be great against ships, but there's no reason for them to be. There are plenty of ship killing missiles as is. Besides, there are ample station sized targets that have thick shields and can't shoot back. Firestorms offer a chance to puncture their thick shields and allow fighters to deal some lasting damage.

actually more then myself, the damn AI is the one keeping shooting down my missiles before they reach target (silkworms, banshees, etc) it's pretty annoying...

and finally i was able to buy the typhoon fac, first i had to gather the dough ...then the bloody tl was already hired....in between these events a Q got one of my freighters, then i get spam of another q attacking another sector...it wa mayhem had to hop sectors and deal with 2 large scale invasions....and when asked ai to help kuz i was under attack all i got was: sry cant help u...

on another note: first typhoon produced :D
